About the special Russian shell performance: Russian shells of this period were very blunt, which made them abnormally good against sloped armor. The cap was just a hollow nosecone to make it more aerodynamic. This is actually one of the more frustrating parts of the shell mechanics in game. Of all the Russian shells, the 76mm is one of the only ones that actually benefits much from this in game, for no apparent reason. Gaijin also doesn't consider special effects for other nation's shells, like improved armor piercing caps for later Russian, British, and French shells or improved metallurgy for American ones.

And camping, people usually camp at the top of a high hill or back of their base, they deserve to be called "campers" other than that you can't call anyone camper, especially if it's in the middle of the map.

The ballistic cap, was a long and pointed cap fitted to a projectile to reduce air resistance in flight. So actually increasing penetration at medium and long ranges, because of the reduce deceleration by air resistance and consequent higher striking velocity. Plus some people believed that the cap 'gripped' the metal surface and was less like to deflect.

Hey phly, you should try out the M48A2 C from the german tech tree using only APHE with a ton of filler... Also because of volumetric, the armor is really good against APCBC and APDS shots. Ballistic capped shells are rounded on the front to help with aerodynamics. A Capped shell is flatter, which cuts through armor like a hole punch through paper. If you mix them, the ballistic cap is made very weak so when it impacts something the nose of the shell squashes and the normal capped shell beneath cuts right through the armor. Then the APHE does its thing and nukes the inside of the tank. So basically it's like a prototype HESH shell.

Phly: i like volumetric me: shoots tiger II in the side with sherman 76 from 100 meters and bounces volumetric would be really good if it was implemented correctly. i dont understand how the shell size has anything to do with armor. it seems like the armor stacking at joints should have nothing to do with volumetric. the IS-7 turret is made of a bunch of pieces of armor and if you hit the right spot the game thinks you hit 1000mm of armor, literally an entire meter of armor. it happens at any location on any tank where two different armor plates meet, it just combines the thickness which makes no sense and is really broken imo.

APCBC is a pointy AP round (AP) with a soft (relatively speaking) blunt cap (APC) with a ballistic cap (APCBC) which is a hollow ballistic streamlined cap. The AP penetrates. The cap sticks to the hit armor just long enough for the AP round to turn and go into the plate, preventing it from bouncing. The ballistic cap keeps the air friction from slowing down the shell at longer ranges from the blunt cap. The Mk III which didn't fire may have been experiencing an in game effect, cause unknown, which I experience which is the main gun won't fire as long as the barrel is pointing at an opposing tank on level terrain. If the target tank moves out of the line of sight, the gun fires. If I point the gun up just enough to clear the target, regardless of which direction the turret faces, the gun fires. Otherwise, just the coax fires. Could be a bug. Could be although not likely a cheat. Mk III with 50L60 gun seems to have this problem in spades but there is no evident pattern by country or vehicle. At the beginning of a game when players fire a round are they switching ammunition or just finding out if their gun will fire? It helps but doesn't always work. The KV-1B is a KV-1 1941 with added armor to the side of the turret. The large bolt heads holding the added armor on are quite noticeable. It was not very fast as the added weight made the tank even slower. It had the same engine as the T34 but weighed about 15 tons more (KV-1) plus the added armor weight of 5 tons or around 52 tons for the KV-1B versus the KV-1 (47 tons) vs the T34 (32 tons). Note the KV-1B you were using had track extenders. Try the T34 turret ring weak point at other than on the same level. I suspect at either above or below the same height the angle just keeps it from penetrating as the turret lower edge hits that volumetric of the shell. I haven't had much luck bouncing AP shells into the top front hull of a Panther off the bottom of the turret mantle either. Angle. It could be done if the 2-3" right height was hit, likely slightly from above, in the war. With luck and nerve.

So PhlyDaily Armor piercing caped ballistic cap is a APHE round with a cap on the head of the shell to help the round go through angled armor but would mess with the rounds ballistics so they put a thin ballistic cap over that so the round is more aerodynamic and so would keep it's velocity at range.
