We, all of us, love her so much because, quite simply, hardly any of us remember a time without her. For good, ill, or probably somewhere in between, The Queen has always just been there, for the great & terrible times, but also for our everyday. It's a bond that's unbreakable between her & us because together we led our lives: remotely obviously but all the same, it was always at Christmas & on the occasion dressed up smart to bow the neck & say 'you & me, your Majesty - for an instant & never, ever, to be forgotten'. Like England, despite everything, we're still us.

Without our unelected rather quite useless monarchy, we'd be a free country. End the monarchy with Elizabeth and open up all of their vast homes and estates -- we'd rake in more in tourism money than we currently do. France did it and they have a larger tourism economy than we do. I've so very proud to be British, but I've never sang our anthem (despite knowing 5 verses!) because I find it wrong to sing about saving somebody who has never given anything to the country. She's never stood up in times of disunity or strife to offer a resolution so it begs the question of why we have them. They are just a relic of a time where the working peoples of this nation were oppressed by the landed, ruling classes.

Don't talk nonsense. She had been "opening up" continuously for 50 years. She fought against the establishment to have the Coronation televised. In the late 50s they did a first --- a documentary about their daily lives, never done before. In the 90s she volunteered to start paying income tax. She broke normal protocol to lower the flag at Buckingham Palace for Diana. Against her better judgment, but demanded by the "opening up" mob, she dragged the 2 boys into the spotlight while they were grieving.

How well I remember this! One has to keep in mind: The Golden Jubilee came after (end in retrospect signalled the end of) what was probably the worst decade of Her Majesty's reign: Divorces, the burning of Windsor castle, Diana's death, abysmal popularity ratings. The jubilee year itself started with the Queen losing both her sister and her mother. Many media suspected that it would become a non-event. And then the Jubilee Weekend came and hundreds of thousands of people turned up, had a good time, cheered. The final drive in open car towards Buckingham palace and the balcony appearances shown in the video demonstrated a people unified behind their monarch. And since then we have seen the quite remarkable recovery of the Royal Family.

I’m glad we had her, now Woody.EXE and I can follow her footsteps just like Charles. Wales loves the 2 of us so much and we’re both preparing to celebrate our jubilee in 9 months time as well as our 2nd anniversary of when Woody.EXE took the throne and I will never forget the hyped crowd when I announced that Woody.EXE had officially ascended to the throne; the crowd was so big that I almost had a breakdown
