As somebody who is considering getting a service dog and is currently majoring in education, it's very comforting to me to see that there are schools who know that a teacher can have a service dog without it being a distraction or a hinderance on the class, which I feel is the assumption, especially with young children. Keep on rockin Mr. Peets!

This inspired me to follow my dream to become a teacher. I have a Service Dog and I thought it wouldn't be possible for me to have a Service Dog as a teacher. Then I saw this, such inspiration. I'm now in my Junior year of college and on my way to become a teacher with a Service Dog. I hope this continues to inspire others that you can follow your dreams, even when you have disabilities and with a Service Dog. Thanks for telling this story. Be Safe Take Care.

I met a guy with a guide dog a few years ago who told me he once was spit on by a woman just because he politely asked her to call back her children who were literally all over his guide dog and pulling on his harness. I mean, how hard is it to understand that a guide dog is not a circus act or a toy for your kids but a life-saving tool for a blind man to safely navigate traffic etc.?

I raise puppies for a non profit guide dog organization and its amazing how many of our puppy raisers are school teachers. They have permission to have their pups in a pen in the front of the classroom everyday and the kids learn about service dogs and the puppy gets well socialized. Dogs are wonderful and so is this kindergarten teacher.

When I was born 2 months early I was not expected to survive and then when I was 8 months old I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and then when I was 5 years old I got diagnosed with epilepsy and a seizure disorder and also I have been in a wheelchair ever since I was two and a half years old so I have never been able to walk my whole life at all so I can really! relate to this with being in a wheelchair

Me literally begging any organization to just give me a service dog for my epilepsy But every organization says I must have a seizure once a month yet I would go over my service dogs tasks every day if needed for them to get me one
@shakeyj4523 Жыл бұрын
You are going to have to train your own. Unless you are a veteran, you won't get a facility dog. You can even go to places like PetSmart for the obedience part. Then train the epilepsy response that you need and if you need help with the public access training, hire a private trainer for that part.

You should look at Therapy Dogs. no matter what, when a dog appears on campus, it's under the principal's discretion (unless it's a service dog). To be fair, Mr. Peets was teaching elementary kids, and if a real service dog showed up on your campus you probably wouldn't be able to even interact with it, since it's not a service dog's job to entertain others :)
