"The upturn of the underfloor forces an expansion of the air and therefore a pressure drop..." I would have thought it was the other way around. Area increases; velocity decreases; pressure increases. But I am sure Martin Brundle has the perfect comeback for this comment, as usual.

Look up "Red Bull F1 vortice creation" and watch the live onboard in the rain in brazil. Adrian Newey is a genius. The moisture in the air actually builds up long enough for you to see the spirals of air created by the flaps etc off the front wing and around the side pod. It's one of the most amazing things F1 aero related that i've ever seen.

@@marktakac8337 No, they are just not as good as MB. Nobody is as good. Even their last year car isn't as good as this year - by far. Their new rear and front suspension is extremely good and helps them achieve higher speeds in corners and also in straight (more balanced) and the new engine, the new transmission, the new updated aero, etc. MB is a class of its own. Everybody else is just chasing them. Max was so far from Lew, it was not even funny anymore. 35seconds in 70 laps ? RBR says their design will get closer to MB but they can't set it up yet. Too complex. RBR traditionally like this, their design is very complex and they always needed 4-5 races to fully understand their design. Hopefully it will happen faster as they are already lacking a lot of points and this season will be short.

The aerodynamics at the front of the car is important in cleaning up the air going into the sidepods, airbox, and undertray. Then the rear wing and diffuser aids in literally sucking the air out from under the car at an accelerated rate, creating a low pressure zone under the car that 'vacuums' it to the surface. Over the car however, the more air flow you can cleanly get to the rear wing, the better. That creates more of a pressure differential between the upper and under portions of the car.

many people argue that nascar is a challenging racing sport because of its high speed and long durations, but that still does not make it more challenging than formula one. formula one drivers face the same tough long endurance challenges, except that they have to make turns at every corner, accelerate, decelerate, face up to 4Gs of lateral acceleration and etc. formula one truly takes both endurance and skill (so does rally, but that's a different story)
@dude210614 жыл бұрын
@oatcakepastymatt Diffusion of air mean spreading molecules. Look up diffusion, it is basically when molecules arrives into a space where there is a low concentration of it and due to heat it will by it self spread out to cover the whole room evenly (not taking into account the mass of the different molecules). In the diffuser of a car the air is forced underneath the car and when it hits the diffuser it is spread out into a larger space which will create a low pressure in the diffuser.

So it has to have enough downforce to stick to the ground but not the much so it wont generate drag right..? makes sense
@deezynar12 жыл бұрын
@toob247 Yes, all the gobs and globs create downforce as a payoff for the drag. My point is that a better written set of rules would allow the makers to clean the cars up and provide even more downforce. It seems that all the teeny bits are there to get around the rules. Of course, the best thing for cutting drag would be to enclose the wheels, but then people would say it's not F-1 any more. Cheers.

I would like to see the use of pressure sensors,electric actuators that can change the position of the airfoils when it traction is compromised. Maybe even morphing the shape for even more precise control.Camber,caster, toe changes could help,but it really comes down to how much is it worth,does it make the cars safer,then I say it's worth implicating it.They should use a driver's pod,like boat racing,too many driver's have been killed or injured. i would like to see the
