My first read was about 160 words, it’s kinda low. The second time I did this I read 260 words. I did get better focus at times but also lost a bit comprehension at others. Also got too excited cause I did not believe I could read this fast and yea lost track lol. More than anything I am excited to implement this into my readings from here on. Thank you for a very pedagogical teaching on Kwikreading

Same thing for me. 150wpm to 235wpm. found myself thinking that I was reading faster while following my finger rather than reading. But when I was reading, it did feel like I wasn't comprehending as much. I could easily move my finger fast and stream all the words in, but they weren't sticking. I assume I need to move my finger slower to strike the balance of speed and comprehension.

Wow, I went from 160 words to 200 words/minute. I grew up in Korea so I often studied my textbooks word by word and sentence by sentence with a dictionary. I also read out loud because of needing to hear and learn difficult/foreign words coupled with an attempt to focus. Learning this, I think it's safe for me to let go of those habits. Thank you!

the finger technique enhanced my speed so much, i am baffled… feeling like it instantly unlocked a good 35% speed increase. i have always been an average reader (felt i was on the slower side since i’ve known people who read so fas) but i still love to read. i’ve been reading for so many years, dense books, that’s i’ve forced my speed to increase, so this boost only compounded on that and i’m shredding through my reading now 🤯

@@muxammad2777 When you are able to do certain things dramatically more productively and boost the performance of your brain to a whole new level, you can truly achieve a lot. I have been working way more concentrated, since I have started training my focus, which works almost like a muscle. In addition to that, I have integrated a lot of little details to my day, which might not initially seem big, but eventually have their big effects. All of this changed my life and will in the years to come.

As someone who suffers with severe ADHD, I really appreciate this video simply because I am terrible at reading letters such as bills etc and it leads to me letting it pile up. For the initial reading exercise the nearest thing I had to me was a letter from the council and I found my words to be about 130 a minute which is pretty low and probably why, despite having written a novel, I’ve always struggled to read long books. Thank you!

Hey William I am in exactly the same boat, as yourself I could write undisrupted for hours but reading makes me so frustrated as I know my ability is so much greater than my performance. Have you found anything substantial in your journey?
@WilliamReginaldLucas
@WilliamReginaldLucas 6 ай бұрын
@@OisinMcGrath1916 bless yeah it’s an odd state of mind cause sometimes you’ll be able to focus for hours but sometimes your mind will be drifting all over the place and it’s difficult to know when it’ll happen. I try and write as much as I can on those days where I go into hyper-focus but if I’m having an off-day I’ll set just 15 minutes aside to try and get something written down cause you never know what idea you might have. In terms of reading, I’ve found that due to my background in film production I can often concentrate on something if I’ve seen a visual adaptation of it first (a lot of people are the opposite), though the longest books I can honestly say I’ve read are the first three A Song of Ice and Fire novels… I still haven’t got through the fourth and fifth haha! The internet is a great tool for people like us though thanks to videos such as these! 🙂

I know man, podcasts and audiobooks as well. I too have found writing incredibly revelational but as I write this, I truly haven't been writing like I should. It makes sense of all the chaos in your thoughts. Might I recommend, to try some different genres. Being sort of dysfunctional at times with my mental health I have a massive interest in healthcare and self help. Self help books are very interesting, historical books, sometimes even horrible books. The Gulag Archipelago is hard to read, but an important lesson and grips you from start to finish. I don't regret reading it at all. Fear and horror almost grips you throughout.@@WilliamReginaldLucas

About vocalization that lets you slower, I think regardless of the speed its so helpfull and beneficial, since reading loud will make you more focused and hard to be distracted by your thoughts, also it increase your ability for remembering what you read, because your brain will be saving info through eyes and ears, and not through only one way, so this helps your brain saving info more effectively. What I want to say is that the benefits are more than negatives.
