This has been my struggle from day 1 - I was the classic note taker that recorded lectures and then wrote notes VERBATIM 😱. Yep - didn’t retain. Thank you so much for this information!!

During college, I was always terrible at note-taking! And nobody taught me how to take better notes. We all know reading your textbook is overwhelming and waaaay too much information to contain and remember, so you know the lectures your professors give you is the key is making the most of your exams and passing it with flying colors! The only way I was better at exams is simply by remembering the emphasis my professors put on things to remember by repeating the same things over and over or by letting students know that, "THIS QUESTION" will be on the exam, so you better remember! No longer in college, but this is applicable anywhere! Thanks for the tips, Jim! 😊

At 7 years old, I was labeled "Gifted and Talented". I was apparently ad smart as a 12-14 year old child. I was never taught how to study or take notes. That wasnt a problem at first, but once i hit high school, it became a HUGE problem. It was specifically my US and World history classes that highlighted the problem. That class was taught like it was a college course (it wasnt even an AP course. It was a regular high school class) and we were allowed to use hand written notes on the test. Problem was that the notes we were given were anywhere from 20 to 150 pages long, doending on what we were learning about. I didnt know how to take notes and i couldnt use the notes i was given in class, so i would spend all night and all during class trying to copy the notes down to use. This video helped me a lot. Im planning to start college soon (took a few years off due to mental health and being homeless.) Hopefully this is enough to get me through college. Thank you.

This is really awesome, I read this method in your limitless book and also in other training. I am thinking today to get different journals for taking notes, 1) for my study on topics for work 2) for the books I am reading 3) for your memory class I am taking. But I am asking if anyone would be willing to post a screenshot of this method of note-taking?

🙋🏻‍♀Ok I paused at 11:36/11:41 time stamp of the video to comment this: I have always used the Cornell Note taking method of compiling/taking notes on the fly and in long form then reviewing nad personalizing it after I go home and on the weekends in college way back in the early to mid 2010s. I will be incorporating this to my bullet journal file folder/notebook Thank you soooo so much for sharing 👏👏👏👏👏😘

So far I am seeing note taking tips on KZbin focused on format structure. It is helpful, but I need examples to follow. Some how some way, I do better learning by way of following an example. And any tip on improving my speed taking notes, short hand and summarizing, would be helpful. I suppose practice makes perfect.

I took notes from the video and I realized that when I normally take notes my mind use to go somewhere else (pending things to do, wishes etc) and I just focus on information caption, after this video I have learned that if I puts my mind to capture information but also to think about the real use and application of the content I will retain more information, that makes sense because you are adding something else beyond taking notes task, you are getting your brain working in real life application of the knowledge. That is great technique.!!

Hi Jim Kwik, I enjoy your video, you give me some ideas on how to improve my note taking skills. I have found for me, that the web, note, design helps me to remember things better when I take notes. I'm a visual, hearing person, so this design works for me. I would like to hear your idea about this, or if you have any suggestions on better note taking process. Thank you!

I absolutely love hearing this! For anyone currently reading this comment, a spin I'd add onto Jim's (action) aspect is 'what are the opportunities I can find to use this?'. Consider it like the meme around calculus...a student mentions how long it's been since they used calculus in their life, however, by asking yourself to look for and list opportunities where you can see it's applicable and to use it there

I thought this was going to teach how to take notes. You said not to take notes the only way I know how, but I didn’t hear anything about how to take better notes. Those three questions certainly was not a new way or better way. If I’m sitting in a class to which I know why I need to take them for a test, how very quickly, and when at test time. The 3 questions you purposed may give some minor help if I read or heard something that I might think I could use later down the road but not sure when then your 3 questions may apply. If I’ve missed something please explain

The same question for me. I heard about this technique from Jim somewhere else, and today seeing the caption, I took a notebook to try the technique but I didn't find these 3 question helpful as I already knew what is my perpuse to listen to this. What's more capturing and interpreting and listening and writing at the same time would be so challenging and missing information. Please let me know it I missed sth.

The three questions to ask yourself to create the right side of you're notes are 1. How am I going to use this info? (eg. answers are : In my bio class , in my job, in my seminars etc) 2. Why must I use this info ? (eg. answers are : This info would make my life a little bit less stressful) 3. When will I use this info? (eg. answers are : I would use this info in the upcoming seminar that I have to conduct)

Great information but in the flip side in my opinion, we are taking care of what the lecturer/ host of the meeting need to do for us for them. If the meeting was intended to give understanding on the information then ample time should be given to that particular session by the lecturer and not just brush it off as "I have given you information then now you need to understand" it situation. Unless, the goal of the meeting was to train perople to come up with understanding based on the information given even if the information is not that organized. In short, transcription is enough for the details and agenda should be in bullet form if the information is already organized by the lecturer/ host. Additionally n my opinion, mindset is also generally important. It depends on the context on why you are taking notes, what will you take note and what can you take notes. Not all taking notes are the same. Secret meetings, brainstorming, information spread, lecture, memorandum, politics discussion, tutoring, teaching and specially when you don't have any information before hand at all on the topic where you take notes or also if you have so much information than the lecturer/host itself.
