I really do love the EWS livery. Suits the 08 just as well as the class 66's. I noticed that the Plymouth train yard has a class 08, presumably in working order although I didn't get a good look at her - she was obscured by lots of fencing. The one at Didcot was looking rather shabby and sad...but she still works hard!
@matthewsnowdenshunterguy33528 жыл бұрын
Sips Tea i totally agree! A very attractive livery that suits ANYTHING in my opinion?! Ive modelled a class 20 in the livery in a previous video :) i havnt actually seen too many 08's in this livery?! Only an 09 at HST! Cheers

Nice footage this. Interesting comparison between standard build and shorty version. Looks like they used slightly smaller wheels to drop the height down a bit more as well. I love these little machines, especially the class 13 version. I built a OO class 13 in br blue, but if a little bit of "alt history" I think an EWS liveried version would be cool. I'm now wondering about a "low height" version of a 13 as well, but that might be a step too far.
@matthewsnowdenshunterguy33524 жыл бұрын
Cheers. Yeah the cut down is cool. Not sure on the smaller wheels, possibly? One does turn quicker than the other if u watch. I build loads of fictitious models, so a cut down EWS 13 would b a right crack 👍🏻
@mechsmantg4 жыл бұрын
@@matthewsnowdenshunterguy3352 yeah I was watching the coupling rods go in and out of sync and I figured it couldn't all be wheel slip under excess power. That train weight would be a walk in the park for an 08 normally, so I can't imagine it was having that many issues. I was debating what sort of scenario would require a cut down EWS 13 and I came up with something like a contracted out haulage service from a restricted access rail served ammo dump. All the internal rail networks I've seen for ammo dumps have very tight curves (040 or 060 locos max), steep inclines, and restricted height entrance ways for the bunkers (low height), so I figured that if a contractor was used for moving wagons internally to make up heavy trains, you couldn't use an articulated loco due to curves and height, and you need more horsepower than a single 08, a 13 is a good fit. If you based it on 09 units you could even justify local trip workings off the internal network and down the main.

That was almost like watching something on Common Barn! Those two certainly look good together - maybe another project for you? As it's so local to you it would be very easy for getting reference material ;-) The cut down version does look a bit weird though next to the standard 08. Do you know what was the reasoning behind that Matthew ? Just curious that' all. .............Graham

Haha it was! Living here nxt to the railway throws projects up for me all the time, like this cut down 08 ;) im hoping to get a 3D print like Vulcan?! Its cut down because its original origin was the railway in Gwendreath Valley, which has a lot of small tunnels, hence needing the cut down :) cheers

Liberty Prime EWS “Ashburnham” was cut down due to the low bridges of the former Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway, in South Wales. The railway was built upon a former canal bed so all locomotives required modification.
