The best opening was when it was called The Texas News back when it was WBAP TV. Theme was called The Texas News March (borrowed from one called The Broad Street March) from about 1948-1972ish

0:07-0:42 is definitely WBAP-TV. Channel 5 in Fort Worth/Dallas didn't become KXAS-TV until 1974.

whammy3323 WOOD-TV was owned by the same company at that time - LIN Broadcasting. KXAS was the biggest station owned by LIN. The music package was shared across the group, as I recall. I worked at KXAS from 1983 to 2005.

I noticed that there are captions now, but some of the voiceover info is missing, so I'll be filling in the blanks: - Chuck Murphy did V/Os from 1984 until some time during the "Building a Better Texas" era (most opens from 1:26-6:22 as well as the IDs that bookend the video). - Paul Anthony (who also did V/Os for stations such as WISH-TV and WTMJ around the same time) was used during the first few years of "Primetime News" (7:33-9:09) - Al Vanik does the opens from 9:34-10:04. - Bill Ratner does the one at 11:39. - John Pleisse is the current voice (11:48 on). The V/O on the open at 6:43 sounds like Charlie Van Dyke, but I don't think it's him (the "t"s don't sound right).
