I think Kya’s got the edge. Honestly, Tonraq’s got that soldier’s endurance and raw strength, no doubt. But when it comes to pure waterbending skill, Kya takes the edge. Her versatility in offense and defense outmatches him, and that’s why she’d likely win in a bending-only battle. It would really come down to their strategies. Kya would focus on technique, defense, and outmaneuvering him, while Tonraq would rely on his raw power and aggressive approach to overwhelm her. Remember, that’s what cost him his fight against Unalaq, he was more focused on reaching Unalaq & physically attacking than bending effectively. It still has its advantages tho, for example where/when he has little to no water. It’s not an easy comparison because their strengths are so different. Both are amazing, but in a waterbending fight, I think Kya’s got the edge.

Hummm Tonraq had most of his fight scenes in area covering ice 🧊 kind of making it easy for him. The only time is when he was with Korra fighting Zaheer. Kya many fighting scene she is relying on the small amount of water💧 around her. Kya for the win ...mostly for creativity ❤

Maybe I am biased but I think Kya would win. She is more resourceful and I think she can do the same tonraq did if she was surrounded by ice. Tonraq was bested by Zaheer twice, first time was when Zaheer just got air bending and second was with Korra helping him. Kya fought Zaheer after he learned airbending from tenzin’s kids. She was able to collect water from Ming hua’s octo-form and turned Ming hua’s crazy offensive against her. I think Ming hua’s offense is stronger than tonraqs.

@@lizzie671 Actually on second thoughts, i think it could go either way but still in my opinion tonraq has more experience in fighting but to think about it, a healer that doesn't train or go out in the battle field almost beat Zaheer and basically beat Ming hua if she didn't use her powers to crawl back from that blast out the balcony. So yes both are very skilled in water bending and kaya probably even knows bloodbending, i think it could go either way. Also just because katara taught her doesn't necessarily means she wins. Katara isn't even the top 3 most skilled waterbenders but she's still good. Kya doesn't have all of her mother's knowledge anyway and was giving Zaheer a hard time.

@@lizzie671 Yes but teenage katara isn't in the top 3 in blood bending maybe not even top 5. This is not in order, just what I can remember from the top of my head. Ming-hua, Amon, Tarrlok, Unalaq, Yakone and that's just about it if we are not including avatars but in an only waterbending fight and no avatar state then kyoshi, maybe Kuruk. I also think eska and desna will give katara a hard time but maybe not defeat her.

Like saying something that had nothing to do with what i said i said she's not even in the top 5 and that's correct all of these people can beat her Amon- no need to explain go watch tlok Tarrlok- no need to explain as well Ming hua- very fast, agile and aggressive and wouldn't give katara time to do anything. She will just keep attacking. Unalaq is very very educated in waterbending and is very skillful and did plenty of moves that atla katara didn't even think of. Yakone- no need to explain but for a reminder he put aang to sleep in the court fight but aang obviously got back up. and I add some avatars that obviously would beat her but I said to be fair no other elements except water and no avatar state and I also said eska and densna is on book 2 katara level and possibly book 3 and bloodbending is not included. And katara did not learn all the sub elements. Where is spirit bending and plant bending exactly? I know she learned plant bending in the graphic novels/comics but in atla katara is nowhere to be found doing such things. So overall katara isn't top 5 but lets possibly pretend this debate didn't happen and Kya vs Tonraq debate was our last statements.

I think people underestimate Kya I honestly think Kya is better in Korra she was safe like 50 if not like late 50’s … and bend that good just imagine her in Katara age or Korra age I can see it ik sure she knows how to attack a air bender I’m sure she spared her brother many times, but age does play a role in my opinion and I’m sure her mother and father age taught her as the oldest to alsys protect tenzin the last airbender and his family I feel like she would have bend like ty lee would if she was a water bender or suki for some reason cause she bends graceful.

Actually it is a close match. Think about it. Tonraq is more aggressive and offensive in his fights, while Kya is very defensive. For instance, Tonraq managed to get close to Unalaq because he was just so standing in the same place. Kya isn’t like that. Her movement is fast and she’s very flexible. Tonraq might get close to her but she can dodge and keep a distance from him. Tonraq’s advantage is close fighting but Kya‘a fast movement made him hard to pin her down. However, Kya‘s offensive is weak compared to Tonraq so she can only avoid and evade. So it could go either way

Kya doesn’t fight like katara. Katara uses earth bending techniques (ice disks against Paku and uses tophs stone palm against Hama), is resourceful and creative. Kya bends more traditional.
