As a teenager i listened to this song and thought “oh cool another kawaii jpop song”. Now that im older and a little more cynical, i am starting to wonder if there’s another side to kyary pamu’s music. Because the imagery seems to point out the artificiality of how japanese media and culture is presented to the world. In this video alone we have faceless and identity-less backup dancers, the artist drop kicking an animeified version of herself, and even her literally walking in front of a green screen to drive the point of artificiality further. I dont know, maybe im reading too far into it. Still a great song and great artist though.

I see this song as a means to resist growing up. When your are young you get to eat and enjoy your sweets and there is always more. Growing up leads you to notice that you have to eat more than just candy. The chewing part is about still getting that candy and being in a state of bliss but eventually, you have to swallow and eat other things besides candy, like veggies! This goes straight to my memories, and is an evidence the music of Kiriko is good for your health: I went with my fiancee and her brothers to a karaoke in Akihabara, on January 2020. I sang a couple of songs so loudly that my stomach began to ache. Then outside while taking a rest I listened this song through the speakers; it really comforted me and the pain began to ease off a little bit, so I recorded it on the mobile phone...but I never discovered the name cause I forgot to ask them... Two years later I finally found that unnamed artist...and now she's one of these I can't stop listening (eventually I saw her in the last Primavera Sound Festival of Madrid). Thank you, miss Kiriko Hayama.
