probably sounding like a broken record by now (sorry!!) but i was finally able to finish this episode and wow. what an amazing episode!!! it was just so comforting to watch and i feel like i could watch it over and over again because of all the cool things you all talk about and the amazing stories you tell! i’ve been so busy lately and this was such a breath of fresh air for me to just enjoy and it was so awesome :) so excited for the next episode!!!

Love the episode! I loved hearing you guys talk about collecting and especially what you keep in the box and what you don't. I'm mostly an out of the box collector unless it can be displayed easier in the box. I have a couple figures that can hang on my wall and I just bought an old Bantha figure from my local thrift shop that will forever stay in the box because it comes with a bunch of tiny figures that I don't want to loose.

I'm at 24:37 and Michael said "if there's something you really want, like I've woken up at 3 am..." I just remembered that I was awake for about 48 hours straight to get myself the Captain Rex funko. I had severely miscalculated the time zones and had to go to work between what I thought was the release time and the actual release 😅 but hey, I got one!

For me, I have to mostly rely on scalpers, so...I'm screwed! Most of the figures I want have been waaay out of production since 2005 or even earlier lol. Most of my collecting focus is on the classic 2008 TCW toy line that's in the exact same art style as TCW show and the 2005 ROTS toy line.

I use to think about keeping some of the stuff I love in their boxes but my mom would always say when she has so many things is that when we die we don't take anything with us. We leave everything behind. So I just thought "well if I die I won't take anything other than my memories, why not use it or take it out of the box". When my mom passed away last year we didn't know what to do with some of her stuff. She also had things she rarely used and some of the appliances she kept safely in the box didn't work anymore and she just used them once or a few times. It also got me sad that she didn't get to cook, bake, or do with what she bought and I think about all the stuff I bought. When I die my stuff will just stay here, thrown away, donated, or sold. So I try to use everything I buy. Sorry for ranting. 😣

Scalpers are scum of the Earth. They're not just breaking the rules and policies of the companies that entrust their entire inventory to them on a daily basis, they're also breaking the laws. I really hope that Michael does indeed go deeper into this and do an entire podcast breaking down the entire situation and exposing these criminals to all the innocent collectors who aren't as aware nor informed about any of this.

Question for the uninformed individual: what’s a scalper? I’m going to guess it’s probably something obvious, and I would Google it, but with Google you can never get a straight answer and if you do it’s always like something that came out of a f*cking thesaurus. So I feel it’s probably a better idea to ask someone from the community

Ha! Love your word journey. A scalper is someone who buys up all the inventory of something and sells it at a ridiculous markup. They normally use bots online to create hundreds of accounts on sites and buy all the product in the same second it’s released, giving humans ZERO chance to get anything.
