We've been keeping a secret from Caleb for six months now. It wasn't easy-especially because Caleb asks SO MANY questions. In January, KYD Insiders Mark & Ceci reached out to us, giving us first dibs on Mark's dad's MGB. They knew Caleb's affinity toward MGs from previous episodes.
We thought it over and decided this was one of those opportunities that he'd remember forever. Caleb contributes so much to KYD and is always so incredibly helpful with a positive attitude. We thought this was something he could take away from his "KYD Years" before he goes off to school next year. If you're now wondering what we're going to do once we're officially empty nesters ... don't worry, we have plans! We knew we needed a good story (reason) to tow a car hauler from Michigan to Ohio and show up at the British Transportation Museum. So we told Caleb that KYD Insider David needed us to pick up his Mustang Shelby because he was traveling. In return, Caleb would get to drive the Shelby at the GingerMan Raceway.

This is really cool and we love that Caleb loves this car. A few years ago, Natalie’s dad (in the Uk) bought an MGB to relive his youth (owned one in his early 20s, now mid 70s). It was the one that got away! Over the years, he restored it to exactly how he remembered his original one. New chassis, repainted, new engine, reupholstered interior, new roof. He barely watches our videos, but we’re pretty sure he’ll watch this 🤣

My 1st car was a 67 Fiat 850 Spyder Sport, got it in 78. It would break down every 150 - 175 miles. In college, I would park it in one specific spot so I could push start it myself for 6 months until I could get the starter fixed. I loved that car. Owned it until 2021. Caleb, enjoy the education of a car you can actually work on and learn all of its peculiar secrets. points burning out, carburetor fowling, electrical problems (catching fire), over heating for no reason and stranding you 100 miles from anywhere, and so forth... Spent every Christmas with my dad, for many years, rebuilding the engine, electrical, clutch until I got my own house then the tradition passed over to my kids. Enjoy it and treasure the memories.

This brought back so many memories of Michigan. It was 60 years ago this summer US 131 Dragway opened. I was 7 and helped prepare for the opening with my Dad, Frank. In 1974 I owned a Orange '71 MGB (the one with no glovebox) wire wheels (never wish for those again) two 6Volt batteries (impossible to jump) I installed a roll bar (made it much stiffer over potholes) & doors didn't rattle. Recommended! Never had problems finding someone for a push either. And Euchre! Living in Oregon now. Enjoy your MG Caleb and drive safely.

This may be the best video you’ve ever put out! What an awesome surprise for Caleb and you guys pulled it off so smoothly! I don’t think I’ve ever seen Caleb literally speechless before. He’s such a great kid and so deserving and grateful. Most kids his age want new Hondas, or BMW’s etc. The fact he wanted a 50yo MGB just shows he’s an old soul, which we already knew. Awesome… both the surprise and the card game at the end. We had a red MG in the 70's when I was a child in Wales. I loved it when my mum would pick me up from school and we would drive to the seaside. I hope that car brings you many fond memories!!!

What a cool thing, I was so happy for Caleb, and then laughed at myself as if I know him! An MGB was my step-dad's dream car and occasionally he would rent one. Seeing how much joy that brought Caleb reminded me of seeing the thrill my step-dad got when he was finally able to own one.

My neighbor has two MGs....a 1957 MG roadster and a 1976 MGB similar to what you just purchased. My neighbor does all the maintenance himself and enjoys both as weekend cars. Enjoy the car! The car is a fun driving experience and it's one of those cars you have a relationship with it driving and doing your own maintenance and repairs.

It would be such fun to see Caleb & KYD at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. Hubby was a shade tree mechanic & would work on car engines like these older ones until they got too fancy & computerized. Has all the tools & hopes to pass them on to our grandson who's now following in his grandpa's footsteps.💕 What a story Caleb will have to tell his kids & grandkids.

I have been with my MGB 20 years now exactly the same colour and rubber nose as the B in this video. Drive her everyday and every minute is enjoyment. The sound the feel rolling through the gears. My first car was an 1968 MGBGT (Dark blue w/wire wheels) . I drove it to college and although it wasn't as quick as my room mate's 911S, it seemed to get more attention from the ladies for some reason which made all the difference. Wish I still had it. Great times, great video. Congrats Caleb!!!

THIS HIT SPECIAL! Two years ago I drove home a new purchased red 1977 Fiat 124 Spider and my two boys were out of their mind. They have access the keys and take "Stella" (she has a name and so should MGB) out for rides weekly. You did great! Now get some antique tags if you haven't already.

My parents surprised me with my first car (1981 Firebird) by taking me to see a car that was for sale, the phone number to call was my phone number. I didn't put it together at first either. Till they told me to really look at the phone number. (pre cell phone) What a great surprise for Caleb. Hope he enjoys that car for years to come. Happy Birthday.

What a great sneaky surprise! I had a boyfriend in college who had an MGB. The first time I rode in it in the rain and he turned the wipers on, I nearly lost it! 3 little tiny wipers on the little windshield!! Never ever saw that before!

Caleb, you have great taste in cars. MGB-GT was my first car. I drove it cross country and had to learn the basics of auto repair. Now I have 2- a roadster and a GT. You never get over it. BTW of course you are taking it to college. I wonder if the MGB is still a chick magnet...

BTW Caleb, a bit in your future, but, my British cars helped me select a wonderful wife. The girls were attracted to the “cute” soft top cars. The 2 seats helped their fathers feel more secure. My longest duration car had a soft top that did not fold down like your MGB, but got removed, frame and fabric. The top was put in my mother’s attic for the RI summers. The girls really enjoyed the sunny skies. However, being British, the various cars would sometimes require pushing to start (2nd gear is your friend), not start at all, or overheat. When the top was up, it did not seal well and rain would leak in, getting their clothes wet, although a bit less than top off. Most of my passengers lost interest. One stayed along for the duration. She has become my best friend with a similar adventurous spirit. Approaching 50 years of marriage.

Great to see an MGB enjoying life across the pond and Caleb’s reaction he was just stunned. A guy I once knew worked on the MG production line in Abingdon in 1980 when he left school. He would apologise to MG owners if there windscreen wipers weren’t fitted correctly (his job). I would be careful using the factory Jack they were know for failing and coming off the Jack. Great period accessory but I’d use a modern alternative for safety.

I bought a 1952 MG/TD for my wife, which I restored as a great driver. It is a fun car that will teach you a lot workings on it. Moss Motors in Calif. has almost anything you will need to keep it running.

I am British 🇬🇧. My first car was a 1969 MGB GT and I held up so much traffic driving that car. It broke down ALL THE TIME but I LOVED it. Enjoy your new ride Caleb! Try pressing and holding in the clutch for about 10 seconds if the engine gets flooded.

Very Nice! Small/light, doesn't require lots of power to be lots of Fun. I once had a '60 MGA, originally they came in three colors (burgundy, british racing green, and sky blue) mine was burgundy. I love MG's. My parents had one similar to his. It caught on fire and burned up when their RV caught on fire in their driveway. 😢 Enjoy! Those are fun cars!

Caleb is a very fortunate young man. When I was a sophomore and just getting my driver license in 1966, my dream first car was an MGB. I had worked full time since I was 12 years old and saved almost all my money. But at only $0.50 to $1.00 per hour, I still couldn't get that MGB and had to settle for a Corvair. Caleb is a good young man and I'm glad he is able to have his dream fulfilled.
