Ricky Wasson is a very under rated singer. Great tone in his voice.

One of the best ensembles of great musicians and singers J.D. ever had. How about a shout out for that high tenor from Dwight McCall, he's one of the most underrated singers IMHO.

How bout a few attaboys for bassist Harold Nixon? Eat yer heart Bobby Hick. Ron nails this one. Best pal and banjer player Ben bought his Yates 5 from Ronnie Stewart. Skillet head too

Awesome sound. Id like to know what kind of mic was used for JDs banjo, looks neat and sounds very warm. Of course JDs un beatable picking has a lot to do with the great sound!

I love this tune. don't get any better than J.D. plus the way they arrage it was so much better than Merle Haggard. I like hag don't get me wrong but he plays it too slow. J.D added what was missing.
@aaronrider40516 жыл бұрын
Son .... I respect your opinion .... but don't go around telling folks that Merle Haggard played a song too slow. Merle Haggard was always right. This may be the right arrangement for bluegrass, but Merle's arrangement was right for Merle. And that's what counts, bud ;)

Okay, this BLUEGRASS version is terrific. It is not, however , better than the Hagg's version and not by any stretch of the imagination, either. Hagg's is A country VERSION AND IT IS THE ONE BY WHICH ALL OTHERS ARE TO BE MEASURED, a voice and phrasing that is nuanced and simply delicious.
@351lrs5 жыл бұрын
I like the trio arangement plus the up tempo...and I am from the mountains where this sound is popular. Haggard's version goes like this...its back................to the barrooms.......right back to drinking again.. J.D just gets right to it they do it like this..its back to the barrooms...right back to drinking again...see the difference..merle haggard had crickets chirping between measures of music. Like I said in my opinion I think J.D added better tempo..trio arrangement..better musical arrangements..hag is good no doubt but to slow..to spaced out and no trio harmonies..it definitely don't get your toes tapping...haggard's version does however make me want to break out Jack Daniel's when I hear it played...oh and by the way mister..I respect your opinion as well..and I ain't your son..think about it
