This needed to be at most 2 on 1 and more of conversation than an interrogation. I've never seen Kyla or RR to be this dull and I watched a lot of her content and almost all RR episodes.

"And wow do the recessions affect the economy?" :)
@Jack-tk3ub5 ай бұрын
37:00 personally I think the main driver for this is increasing inequality. GDP might look good, but if all the gains go to the top 1%, and the rest are struggling, it is not a good measure of how the economy is performing for the average Joe.

Fully agree! Inequality is the the most important issue of our times, but almost completely ignored by mainstream media. As for the GDP, it is a very useful metric after adjusting per capita. In Canada it has been going down for 5 consecutive quarters. No wonder it feels like a recession, we ARE in one.

The PWL guys are experts asking very basic finance questions. It was really dull. Maybe ask her questions that she has unique insights in.

Why do you need three of you to talk to your guest? A one-on-one (or 2on1) interview would be more engaging, allowing for a deeper, more dynamic conversation with better back-and-forth interaction. Also, it's a waste of Mark's time. If he doesn't actively participate in the conversation, his time would be much better spent creating tweets instead :D Oh, and please get Mark a better mic. The "s" sounds are whistling like that unpleasant grandpa from Family Guy. And maybe it's a problem with the format, but sometimes when you have a broader set of questions and guests who aren't deeply specialized in certain scientific topics, I find myself wishing for more room for you and your guest to explore topics as they naturally develop, rather than trying to check off every question on your list. It might be worth letting the discussion flow more freely to see where it leads, for example when you spoke about Crypto. Just my two cents.

Kyla is a great guest. Enjoyed this discussion. Thank you! (Fwiw, and perhaps naive, but we view home "ownership" as a store of value... a cash-flow battery for later--whether that cash-flow comes from renting out a room or from a reverse mortgage when other sources of income are no longer available--and if you are lucky enough to NOT NEED that in the future then WOOT! For us, we hope our kids won't let renting to solve a "today problem" act as an impediment to building that long-term cash-flow battery for the "tomorrow problem" of retirement or some other unexpected exit.)

About the 0% inflation target, I think the problem with it is people will always want some sort of yearly salary increase, just to feel like they're making progress in their job/career, so you will always have some inflation from rising wages. 0% inflation may not be achievable because of this.
@Will140f5 ай бұрын
Doesn’t the BOC target 2% for precisely that reason?

Low but stable inflation is supposed to an incentive to invest sooner rather than later. It’s a disincentive to hold cash. -Ben

@davec39745 ай бұрын
I don't think it was dull. She probably didn't offer anything that would expand the knowledge of most RR listeners, but she answered basic questions in a concise and engaging way. I can see her providing a gateway to RR for many people who become interested in economics and personal finance.

I’m a big fan of RR, but this episode feels all wrong. Especially when compared to the previous offerings.
