As a baseball obsessed kid, I mostly played the outfield and pitched. Had a coach once however, who insisted I catch, for reasons he never shared with me. I mean, I in no way had a catcher's build, being on the tall side and lanky, and not the biggest guy on the team. Maybe somewhere in the middle. And I absolutely hated it. My hitting suffered, my enjoyment of the game plummeted even more, and I got to where I despised the very sight of all that junk I had to wear. Putting it on became like buckling into a heavy straight jacket while donning a ball and chain, and never getting used to feeling all the time like a tangle footed over encumbered ox behind the plate. So hats off to guys like Kyle who see it as a calling, cuz that's exactly how you *have* to feel about the most difficult and unnatural position on the field, and why the good ones are so very rare in the game.
