Glad that Whitt is coming back. The main reason is because if he left, we'd have Scalley as a rookie HC, a new OC and then we'd have to find a new DC. And then all of the personnel changes that come with that. With Scalley as HC-in-waiting, there's no rush. Players know who the HC will be when Whitt leaves. And why would Scalley be upset? Why would he want to find a new OC, a new DC, possible new rush of players leaving via the portal, replace any other coaching staff personnel, all in his first year as a rookie HC?

Coach Whittingham needed to come back because that is what is best for the team under the circumstances. 1) Whits's contract isn't up Coach Scalley knew that agreeing to be HC in waiting. 2) Would have been bad for the team to need a new OC, a new QB coach because we do, and we would have needed a new DC. Plus, honestly we need a new Special Teams coach. 3) Losing a lot of players, especially on the offensive side that we need to concentrate on. Adding all of that together, even Scalley I believe would agree it would have been too much change at one time. Better to concentrate on Offense and Special Teams for this next season, and then on a DC for the following. Go Utes!

I would be very surprised if Scalley had any issues. He's getting paid and probably splitting some of the tasks with Whit. Not going to feel sorry for him at all.

Whit didn't want to end on this note; potential for big change with a new OC--and perhaps more importantly, a new QB
@rionmartell33996 күн бұрын
I think Kyle wants to go out on a positive note, not the season he just had. Scalley really has no reason to be upset because he’s lucky he’s even employed. BYU can have Wilson, we need a game time baller not a practice prodigy who looks like a deer in headlights when it matters. Regardless of Cam coming back we need depth at the QB position. Too bad we can’t get depth like Georgia or Texas at the QB position. Why can’t we get the NIL money? Didn’t the Eccles family found the federal reserve? SLC is a huge city with no pro football team- Utah Utes could essentially fill that void in this current era of paying college athletes. We sell out every game. Maybe Kyle will forfeit his salary for this next season and buy us some players. In any case Utah needed to make some changes and they definitely have.

I'm pretty sure we have NIL money. But it hasn't been well spent.... partly due to bad luck.

The implication is that Whitt doesn't, in his heart of hearts, fully trust Scalley to run the program or he would've stepped aside, retired and let him take over as the HC. Whitt, by doing this, shows that he thinks he's the best option. And that has to be frustrating for Scalley. And the question has to be what is the metric by which Whitt should retire. Most coaches either leave because they go out on top or because they are losing. Well, Whitt didn't retire after back-to-back PAC-12 titles. He didn't retire after a 5-7 gawd awful season in the Big 12. So, what constitutes a reason for him to retire. Some fans and pundits speculate him having a successful season. Well, what does that even mean? It's not even clear that Whitt can distinguish between himself and the program. He seems to think the program and him are one and the same. I'm sure his view is "I built this darn thing into what it is today". Well, at some point, he's gotta leave. That's why I admire coaches like Chris Peterson and Bobby Bowden. They knew when to leave. It's not clear that Whitt does.

... and yet Whitt--and the entire organization--fully trust Scalley to become HC in the future. OK for Whitt to aim for a more positive exit.

Kyle has single-handedly turned this program into a dumpster fire, all for his own selfish reasons. How un-self aware do you have to be to not see the chaos you have personally caused in this program?! OC’s turning you down, a bunch of offensive talent leaving, recruits decommitting. All due to Kyle and his ridiculous offensive philosophy and dictatorship, and everyone outside of the program, except Ute homers, can see it clearly.

Whit sucks and should have done the program a favor and walked. There are plenty of young PASSIONATE coach's that will do more than leach off of BYU. How about a coah that doesn't have to worry about loosing the in state recruting becuase kids around the country want to play for them. I am done with the Utes till Whit is gone, I can't watch this program fall apart becuase our Mormon coach can't bring himself to interview coach's that don't have Provo on the resume.

Lmfao! Another severely abysmal losing season coming up from a significantly washed up coach who keeps on regressing the program! Congrats Utes, you deserve what you got!
