Nothing irks me more than Americans playing the whole “oh that’s disgusting, I can’t believe you eat that” about haggis, then flying home and having a Hot Dog!

I lived in the USA for 18 months and was shocked at how bad the food quality was, how much sugar there was in everything, how processed every was and how expensive it was for such nasty food.

Haggis served properly is not deep fried in batter from a chip shop ! 😀

I believe the original thinking regarding the ingredients of a haggis was to respect the animal by not letting any of it go to waste. To Scots, it's regarded as just normal everyday food! As for the flak you're getting for the pronunciation of Glascow, it's understandable, as the individual syllables Glas and cow would be said just as you said it. Everyone in Scotland hear it mentioned all the time as Glazgo. It crops up a lot in youtube videos, and your best bet in any town or country is just to ask a local. They'd be happy to help!

One of the best descriptions I’ve heard of haggis (when it’s served as the national dish, with neeps and tatties instead of battered and deep fried) is comparing it to a highly peppered (as in ground pepper) meatloaf. Oh and if you’re really uncomfortable with the thought of the ingredients of a traditional haggis, try the vegetarian one. It has the same flavour profile but generally contains lots of finely diced veg and lentils along with the oats, vegetable suet and spices of the traditional one. As a Scot who has been vegetarian for around 35 years, I can honestly say I love a bit of veggie haggis and often have one in the freezer for when the craving strikes.

It's pronounced Glazgo. The OW part is not usually accentuated. Greggs sausage rolls are ok, but some of the smaller independent bakeries do a pretty good job of making sausage rolls and pies too.

We deep fry pizzas, and you wouldn't use that as a guide to how pizza should taste..... go to a restaurant and have haggis with tatties and neeps (potatoes and turnips) and a creamy whisky sauce..... deep fried haggis is like the late night alternative to a kebab!!

@Retrospective.
@Retrospective. 2 ай бұрын
The index on the video said, "it's pronounced Glaz-go", and you then go an call it "Glass-cow", like most other Americans, and this whole, "we are eating Haggis, made from lungs, heart and liver, try it if you dare", is getting pretty old. I lived in American for a year, and some of the shit you eat puts Haggis to shame, Hot-dogs (lips and assholes) chittlins, and WTF is head cheese? it would be nice to see some of our American friends, just try Haggis, rather than make it look like your about to eat a cadaver, and if I am honest, it's pretty insulting, and insensitive.
