The log cabin is starting to take shape. I got the gables done, purlins on, and ridge beam installed. Next video I will carve out the door and windows and get a roof on it.

I’m an old man now but I used to do things such as this throughout my life and lament that I’m no longer able to do these things. The smell of the woods. The wood submitting to your will. The progress. And the earned nights rest due to a days honest and rewarding labors. Thank you sir for allowing me to participate in your project. Thank you. Thank you.

the problem with butt and run cabins is that all the torsional loads of the entire cabin is depending on every single one of those spikes.... if just one of 80 spikes fails in any way, the cabin will collapse under its own weight, if you get a stiff breeze the cabin will collapse under its own weight. The only fix is to sick a 2X4 on the inside and outside of each corner, drill through and nut and bolt them together, so you have to do it in 8 places, two sets in each corner.

Hey Kyle, I know you know what you are doing so I'm not worried or anything, but it looks like this is an awfully low cabin? I mean .. the floor will be built later up off the ground. It looks like you will only barely be able to stand and if that it'll only be smack in the middle of the cabin underneath the ridge beam. Why so short of a cabin? Will you be sitting inside? I thought you wanted to work on wood inside, so wouldn't you want it taller??? Example at 14:29 you can see the floor roughly starts at your knee's height. So add that and you look like you'll be bumping your head just about everywhere later on once the floor is in. I'm ready to learn, so feel free to school me 😃
