Nice work as always. Btw, I asked in your last video on the new build land, what ever happened to the cabin you were building? It had the windows and doors going in and then stopped. Why now another build without finishing the one started already? Busy guy.

Great job with the stove install! It looks awesome on the wall, and I'm sure it'll heat the new addition like noones business..😊 Love what you're doing 😊
@ricka.a.20 сағат бұрын
Personal preference. When I do heat sheilding. No matter what it is. I leave roughly a one inch gap to the wall also. And I leave the same kind of gap at both the bottpm and top of my sheilding. It promotes air flow behind the sheilding through convective air flow. Helping to keep the wall cooler. And helping circulate some of the heat in the room.

Great tutorial! Just what I needed. I have a mini version of your same stove, so all of the steps you outlined are relevant to my own install (except I'm not going thru the roof!)

Needs a 1” air gap at the base of the hear shield to draw air in at the bottom and a gap at the top to escape.

I bought the smaller version of this stove a few years ago for my 170 square foot hunting cabin. It is solid, works great and I can’t run it too high as it gets too hot in the cabin. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a good quality stove!

@jamesringler597720 сағат бұрын
i believe you installed the black flue pipe opposite of what it should be, the crimped end should be faceing up to prevent smoke from seeping out through the joint
@armslength261819 сағат бұрын
Crimped end is always DOWN, allowing creosote to drip back down into the chimney and stove, instead of leaking out from the splayed end. Any tiny bit of fugitive smoke will always be pulled into the chimney by draft effect, even if you had little holes in the side of the pipe, which you hopefully don't have.
@armslength261818 сағат бұрын
A much better choice of solid-fuel stove would be the Amish multi-purpose Hitzer-55 heating stove. Made for burning thermal coal with the robust heavy steel construction, thermostat air flow control, and ash handling needed for that, it is also very good at burning large irregular pieces of firewood of varying quality because of those features. Wood is best burned with air flow coming at the side of the fire, which is why the cheaper sand-bed woodstove fireboxes can get away with being cheap. But for coal and irregular miscellaneous solid fuels with potentially intense heat release, you need a regulated air flow coming from underneath. The shaker-grate ensures you can easily clear bottom ash to keep that flow going. A bottom ash tray underneath that allows efficient ash handling and removal even when the fire is burning. If you want to burn wood in it, just let the ash bed build up and the side-flue allows air to come at the wood fire from right to left. Do not use those snap-together single-thickness pipes. Much better to install structural factory double-wall black pipe for the indoor sections (as is usually required by code nowadays), mating to the outdoor double-wall sections on top. Double-wall is safer, much stronger and more stable, and holds in the heat better allowing for a more reliable draft. Finally, a 3-sided wall of stacked paver bricks around the stove is much better than some sheet metal or cement board on your wall. Not only will the brick protect a wall from radiant heat, it will actually absorb all that heat instead of reflecting it away. So you'll get an extra hour of usable heat being put into the room from it after the fire goes out. Relatively little heat will be radiated from the double-wall black pipe, which will be a considerable distance from any wall anyway.

Do you have to have the cement board or can you just have the metal with a 1 inch gap?
@prima16420 сағат бұрын
You can just put up sheetrock if you want, the metal heat shield and air gap are doing all the work. The cement board isn't doing anything at all over regular drywall. Neither material can combust and neither is a good insulator or reflector. He probably just had it on hand and saved himself some $$$ on the wooden planks in that spot. No reason to use good wood when it's covered with the corrugate metal.

Question, we only see what your choose to show us, do you ever take a day to just watch KZbin or chill and relax? When I retired, I felt like it was a waste if I didn't accomplish at least on thing a day, but now, when I am tired I vegetate, but sometimes feel guilty for it. The only wood stove I ever owned had a thermostat intake damper rather than one on the chimney so I don't know much about chimney dampers. Do the chimney seams leak any smoke when the damper is closed?
