As an Australian, I am SO HAPPY that you're focusing in on our Kylie lately. If you're from Australia or Europe (especially the UK) or even Asia, you would've grown up with Kylie and know all about her but seemingly the US has been the one market Kylie has never really cracked before. I had the honour of working with Kylie during my music industry days and I can reassure you that she is just as lovely and genuine as what she appears in her videos. I'll always have a soft spot for Ms Minogue.
@naturecheckАй бұрын
Kylie had several singles charting in the US Billboard Hot 100... but all in two very small windows... in 1987/88 and 2002/03. She hasn´t had a charting single in the USA in over 20 years. In the rest of the world she had consistent success... especially in the 1990s.
@SomeGuy-mg5jyАй бұрын
I am American and I still have my 1988 Locomotion cassette single 😂. We knew her during her first album. But for a long time after I didn't know where she was because the Internet wasn't really available and I didn't have access to music stores selling imports. She does have a following here, but American Top 40/Pop radio didn't play dance music like other countries. But she's always been a presence in the clubs. 🎉

There's so many callbacks to her history in this performance. In the intro there are elements of confide in me, spinning around, tension. The rotating Kylie is a callback to her 2002 brits performance (i see some have recommended it), the black dress for can't get you out of my head is a callback to one she wore in the what do i have to do music video (one to add to your list) as someone below mentioned the fonts on the white jumpsuits are fonts from across her eras. The choreo in the chorus of Love at First Sight (the first one in white) is the orginial choreo. Another great reaction guys. Fun fact, there was nothing holding her on that podium. If you want an absolute amazing performance, i strongly recommend her Glastonbury performance

You’re so right that her joy is real and a huge part of her appeal. She’s an incredibly humble, gracious superstar and she seems so grateful for her decades of success and love in the industry. It’s been an uphill battle for her to get where she is. Love that you notice it!

Padam Padam wasn't a hit in the US (Kylie has only had 2 Top 10 hits there in her entire career, so I'm not surprised), but it was her biggest solo* hit since All The Lovers (2010) in the UK and other European countries (and also Australia). It'll be her 3rd song to reach 200M streams on Spotify before her tour starts (Can't Get You Out Of My Head and her Christmas hit Santa Baby are the other 2 songs she has over that mark), so it did pretty well for a woman over 50. *Higher with Taio Cruz was also pretty big in 2011

Padam Padam didn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100; it was only really a hit in a few countries.
@sjb2471Ай бұрын
@@heekamalokilo7194well…sort of. She’ll always be biggest in the UK, Australia and Europe, these are her home markets and the USA is a very saturated market that’s hard to crack (it also historically prefers a country and R&B influence to a euro-pop one), but as the boys rightly say, music is so decentralised now, it’s hard to define a hit. Many, many people in the USA would recognise Padam if they heard it; they may not know who it is singing, but it had enormous social media cuthrough globally, even in the USA.
@heekamalokilo7194Ай бұрын
@@sjb2471 It did have a notable impact on social media, but if it didn't chart on the Hot 100, then I think it's misleading to call it "massive". Its streaming numbers don't support that claim either, though they are excellent for a Kylie song.
