There can be only be one name for that knife "Northumberland." The history, from before Roman times until after is amazing. Got to keep that historical link from times gone past when our ancestors would pay a handsome price for such a blade.

Your welcome Chris, it was a good camp. I use Google earth to recce places, you can never tell for sure until you go there. I wasn't disapointed with the views and the bunker is an added attraction but there are some good examples in better condition elsewhere in Northumberland. ATB

Hello Damien. Another good video mate. I had to look twice when I seen chris on your video- I Havnt seen chris since I was about 17 years old. I’ve just found his channel and left him a message. Glad to see he’s doing well, great bloke and mad as a box of frogs. His knives are stunning aswell. I propose for his knife to be named ‘THE WANNIE’ or ‘WANNIE’. In honour of our beautiful Northumbrian river that I know we have all enjoyed. It’s a cracking knife. Speak soon bud. Cheers. John.

Thanks John, I think something to do with Northumberland is a good idea. I've known Chris most of my life and he is a man of many talents. He's a gifted painter and artist, wheras I'm more of a piss artist than anything else lol

Great enjoyable video, from the bunker exploring to base camp setup and for your effort in taking the drone bag for the aerial shots. KCB knife after your film title, Kyloe Crags, Bunker.
@Fell_Wanderer6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I was thinking something along the lines of the bunker and the second world war resistance fighters but then a Fairbairn Sykes cammando style knife came to mind which is more fitting. KCB sounds good as just below the crags where we camped is the auxilliary patrol bunker and seems a good name

Cracking vid again mate...you certainly live in a beautiful area. With regards to your cook kit have you thought about a jetboil? For years I had a bulky petrol stove and was put onto the jetboil zip by a friend...absolutely love it now. Pretty compact and self contained. Of course the fire box is probably the most compact option but it does depend on your ideal pack weight wether or not to invest in a jetboil. Anyway keep posting....you know it makes sense. 🤘😀🤘
@Fell_Wanderer6 жыл бұрын
Jetboils are great but I've steared away from gas as once they are empty they cant be used where as wax burners which I usually use are more useful to me as I can usually find wood to burn unless up the hills. They are sooty to use and not good in high wind so they have some drawbacks. I'm trying meths now and its less bulk in my pack, I'm not too fussed about weight its more about what I can get into a 35L pack, atb

Its been a long time since visiting the bunker so my memory isn't good. I have 2 gps locations stored but can't remember which one I visited so will give you both locations. Kyloe Crag Auxiliary Unit Patrol, NU 04632 39033 and Lowick Auxiliary Unit, NU 05245 38803. I don't believe there are two bunker locations?.. they are too near to each other to be separate patrols. Its located at the base of the crags and you should find it, any vegetation should of died back by now. Good luck finding it .

Never tried titanium other than my spork, I know the benefits of lightweight but you tend to pay a premium for loosing a few grams in weight. I'm a minimal camper and cut weight in other ways. Stainless steel can take more heat and I've seen titanium frying pan warp on a fire

I think the Victorians imported the Monkey Puzzle tree, Araucaria Araucana as we would say at Peter Barratt's lol. They liked their landscape and gardening projects but its hard to understand why those trees got on top of Kyloe Crags? Maybe from a distance with a high powered Victorian era telescope it looks like a small rockery with dwarf conifers on top. Did I just say dwarf conifers lol...

5mm with a micro bevel.....how has his knife making skill evolved to finding this a positive..... 5 MM is so thick it makes the knife heavy & the micro bevel makes it much harder to sharpen.. Micro bevel is usually used on cheap steel to give the blade rigidity upto the bevel..it's a hard to sharpen & bad shape for most woodwork like featherstick & anything precision as the bevel finishes & the 4mm blade becomes a splitter wedge that holds off surfaces hence shaving & cutting is compromised & so this blade type is usually used on cheap steel for bear grills & zombie knives because people don't know what there doing..very nice handle & build quality but for bushcraft there is only one profile...scandi..for good reason.
@Fell_Wanderer6 жыл бұрын
I have one of Chris's scandi grind knives, third one he ever made and holds an edge really well, as good or better than my TBS Boar Bushcraft. He is going through a stage of making different styles of knives so in that sense Chris's knife making skills is evolving. perhaps this knife will be more suited to other things than carviing wood. A scandi is great for feather sticks and wood carving like you said but the edge damages easy so might be a better knife for battoning, skinning and butchering game.
