I might be wrong but I think Daniels “mouth guard” is actually a retainer, he had braces in his toro Rosso days so it would make sense for him to be having to wear a retainer still now, most people only wear them at night after a few months but I guess biting down hard during a 10G crash could misalign your teeth if you’ve recently had braces.

Ricciardo's mouth guard is likely a Bruxism guard. I've used one when racing for years as I grind my teeth while riding or focusing on things. They're smaller and more comfortable than a sports gum shield.

I actually was in Monaco on that hill in 2015 for the race. We could see the pit entry which in that year was race deciding. You can also see the tiniest top bit of the cars coming out the tunnel and there was a massive screen. The slightly weird but cool thing was that commentators on track loudspeakers would switch between like 5 or so languages, so that hopefully everyone in the very international crowd understands them. I don't think I've ever been to any other track that has tried so hard.

A fitted motuh guard doesn't cause any trouble for speaking. It's not even as uncomfortable as it might seem, once you got used to it. Edit: It doesn't necessarily protect the teeth, it's worn to prevent a concussion.

Great series of videos. Thank you. Actually you have to pay to get onto Le Rocher under the palace. They're not free but are considerably cheaper than anywhere else. You must get there early though - very early on race day if you want any chance of a decent view.
