the reason Ian is hesitant to tell Mandy that he’s gay is because it’s dangerous to be gay in their neighborhood. They don’t go into it super specifically but you will definitely hear certain characters (especially in Mandy’s own family) talk about “fag bashing” a couple times throughout the series. Rampant homophobia is still alive and well in their neighborhood so it’s kinda hard to tell who is someone you can trust and whether the risk is worth it. otherwise I’ve been loving your reactions to Shameless, and I hope you see the series through. It’s a shame that it’s not a popular show to react to because the drama and the acting are amazing, even from the child actors (as you pointed out with the actress that plays Debbie!). Can’t wait to see more!

Some really cool differences: In the UK Shameless, Tom had a night with Fiona before the events of the show begun, and he is still in love with her, comically having her photo printed onto his plates and cups in his house.😁 But they never hook up properly in the show. Here, it is changed, fleshed out to fit the US's bigger scale. It works, it creates more tension between Steve and Fiona. And in the UK one, we dont meet Micky until season 3. He is older, more sweeter and has to constantly hide his feelings infront of his tough as nails family, putting on a tough guy front. I love too all the switches and changed they make to Lip/Mandy/Karen. It was fascinating to see it reworked like that.

Im I'm pretty sure Ian didn't tell Mandy he's gay when she jumped him, because they were at his home, where only Lip knew his secret. I guess he wasn't ready to come out to her and did it when he was ready. As simple as that.

This is the episode in its first season where the show breaks from the plotline and timeline of the original UK version, and creates a new story to expand the US versions bigger world and possibilities. And its fantastic. When I watched the US pilot, I loved how it covered and copied everything from the UK version, with some new stuff in there. But I wondered how they lived in a big house. With "Aunt Ginger" here, its brilliantly realised and sticks to the classic "shameless" fashion. I love seeing how Ian meets Mandy here, its like the UK one, only more "fleshed out". I love seeing stuff like Fiona's interest with the Cop and Franks staying at Shelia's getting a bit more time here. I loved seeing the UKs small scale, cheaper, more surreal approach and production get a "big screen adaption" like this. Enjoy the show, its wonderful.

this show is so complex, u cant just say o this person is such and such cause they did or said such and such. mandy was like that with ian cause probably thats all she knew from the guys shes been with. and when kevin said fag, or the kids say the R word, theyre portraying real people in real tough areas of society, they shouldnt have to sugar coat they portraying cause it was on tv. otherwise it the show wouldnt hit as real and personal as it does. we're a product of out suroundings pretty much, even more growing up. and u can see they never mean real malice when they say shit like that.
