I believe Enshin and Ashihara Karate, which are derivatives of Kyokushinkai have its roots in Tae Kwon Do, Goju Ryu and Muay Thai Boxing (elbow, and knee strikes). Even the follow through movement from a round house kick is from Thai boxing.

I would love to train with these guys some day, and I don't just mean a month of 'bootcamp seminar' style stuff, I mean genuine living and training with them. There is definitely a real essence of bushido in the way they seem to live.

The theory is to immobilise the opponent to the point they can't continue fighting while utilizing only striking,when two karatekas clinch up in standard Kyokushin rules they will be separated.Judo is chock full of techniques that disable your opponent's limbs or rid him of his consciousness that can be utilized both in stand up and on the ground and not just throws.That's why some of Kyokushin offshoot arts allow grappling since it is another(also easier) way to disable your opponent.

Very interesting. I've often contemplated that a level of Judo would compliment the stand up ethic of my/[our] training. After all, Oyama was a Judo practitioner before Karateka as was my teacher. Technically, in our knockdown style though, we would not be permitted to use such grabbing techniques in a knockdown because the theory is to immobilise the opponent to the point they can't continue fighting, not just put them to the floor. But I'm sure there's elements of Judo relevant.

Thank you! I find these hybrids quite interesting, as it's mastering an art style and adapting to possible situations whereby it would have been less ideal to use striking techniques, rather than not learning the true discipline of an art and just learning various techniques from different styles (most MMA) so it's still true to the virtues of martial art you are practicing even though the techniques might not necessarily be of that style.

that's completely normal. we do that in boxing and kickboxing as well. by being on the offence you force your partner to be on the defence. if you keep the distance, both can be offensive. if you close the distance one will be on the deffensive. or else it is a brawl or a street fight or a battle of strenght or something.

And they modify and pair some Kyokushin and Judo techniques together,as can be witnessed from many Judo moves(like,say,the Osoto Gari,they set it up with a face punch and while the opponent is retreating they sweep their leg in an Osoto movement.)

Footwork movement is hidden by hiding the tows? So, all footwork is hidden and the opponent doesn't see the Mawashi geri or Mae geri or the Ax kick coming now that the tows are hidden?
kyokushin = goju ryu + taekwondo. Oyama sensei was Korean and got goju ryu karate.

His style is not Kokushin any longer. After leaving Kokushin as he was convinced that it was mere sports for competition, he learned traditional Okinawa Karate from Kenji Ushiro. And he concluded that Karate is ultimately to practice Kata though he does not deny Kumite.

If the katas have hidden techniques, how do you practice them? The katas is just the same moves as you practice in the classes but in a predetermined pattern. Allthough the face and groin punch / kicks are removed when fighting.

For me Kyokushin Karate and Brazilian Jujitsu are the best martial arts in the world for any body size in terms of simplicity despite them being hard to master. Combine both with Muai Thai Boxing then you'll be a sick fighter no one will mess with on the cruel streets. 👌

I always wonder, why do Kyokushin Karateka always sweep the floor with their long gi pants. Is there an ideology behind extra long trousers sweeping the floor?

Yes there is. It is to hide your feet when fighting so the opponent is not able to see or predict the kick

There's absolutely no Tae kwon do in there,Muay Thai,yes,Kyokushin fighters have changed some of the traditional Karate techniques to resemble MT more,since they were more effective(the roundhouse for example) and Goju Ryu,yes,it's one of the styles that Kyokushin derived from. But absolutely no TKD there,TKD didn't even exist at the time of Kyokushin.
@aamirshaikh94945 жыл бұрын

THEY NEVER USE GROIN KICKS THEY RARELY USE STRIKES TO THE FACE IN SPARRING. THE PREDOMINANT KICK IS A ROUND (MAWASHI GERI) KICK. LITTLE DO THEY KNOW THEY ARE WEAKENING THEIR KARATE. KATAS HAVE HIDDEN TECHNIQUES AND WHAT GOOD IS THE TECHNIQUES PRACTICE IN KATAS IF YOU DO NOT PUT IT INTO PRACTICE.

He is saying it is important to get control of the distance over the oppoent, but he is not doing it at all. It can be said so only when you could enter into the space where the opponent becomes completely unmovable. Entering such a distance equals you do not let the opponant do anything, which also equals to the situation that you have realised completely putting the other's position down.
