Makino Japanese lacquer was founded in 1929. It is a Japanese lacquer that represents Kyoto, having twice worked on lacquering inside Japanese lacquer throughout the country, Buddhist altar fittings, and the restoration of Kinkakuji. In other words, it is a craftsman group of " lacquer artist".
MAKINO TOSHIYUKI, the 3rd generation, is good at traditional Buddhist altar fittings and work related to temples and shrines. On the other hand, TOSHIYUKI's eldest son and the next 4th generation, KOTA, who joined the company two and a half years ago, has little experience as a Buddhist altar fittings craftsman. We are working to disseminate the possibilities of Japanese lacquer beyond the boundaries of the industry.
One of the new initiatives is the creation of "Japanese lacquer sample panels." With the sample panels, it has become possible to explain the techniques of Japanese lacquer art using various techniques while actually showing them. The final image of the product or work is easier to grasp, and the sample panel is creating new work.
In addition to the traditional technique of "brush painting using human hair", there is also the "100% Japanese lacquer spray painting" established by the current chairman, the second generation, MAKINO SHINICHI. It is "Makino Japanese lacquer Crafts" that has flexibly incorporated new attempts.
Japanese lacquer is called JAPAN in English. We will approach the Japanese lacquer craftsmanship that the group of lacquer artist in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, is disseminating to the world and their thoughts on their work.
