(Personal preference here) I actually much prefer playing metal in a dropped tuning. Doesn't matter which one but I find it easier to just bar a powerchord than play one in standard (and you can get a heavier sound with the same amount of distortion (ish)). But again, that's just my opinion, take it with a pinch of salt.
