Woot, woot, these kids are utterly amazing. I just love that the (please excuse my wording), the drum major/conductor left the platform as if Kyoto Tachibana Marching Band was on cruise control and performed flawlessly. Then they all started yelling and as soon as the drum major/conductor made it back up the platform and in unison they all stopped yelling. Talk about discipline. I never get tired of watching these kids they are in a league of their own. Surely they were also admired, but the rest of the marching bands not just the audience. They are truly phenomenal......They are the elite of all marching bands on God's green earth.

The young lady in the orange skirt ("Ron") was the 2017 drum major. The older guy in black was their marching coach, Hirufumi Yokayama, although he was more of a regional coach who worked with many other school bands in the area. He lived in the US for a while and came to have a good understanding of what American audiences wanted. It was he who walked around the Rose Bowl parade route a couple of days before the event to see where the TV cameras would be, and then determined what songs to play when. Shrewd guy! He loved his black uniform, too. I believe Ron stepped off the platform because she seemed to love playing her clarinet with the band and wanted to go do it, leaving Yokoyama up there to start the song off. A little physics is needed to appreciate why someone had to be up on the platform. You see how spread out the band was for Sing Sing Sing. Sound takes time travel (1125 feet/sec). When you are standing at the end zone and others are at the other end of the end zone, the time delay between them is about a quarter of a second. You need one guy somewhere to give VISUAL cues of the song so that everyone is playing at the same time. Otherwise it's complete chaos out there on the field. That's why you have someone high up to set the tempo and get everyone started in sync. Once the band is scrambling everywhere, they can't watch for the visual cues, so you step off and hope they can all keep in sync with the drums that are controlling the tempo. To get them to end on the same beat, he goes back up and ends it. The screams (there is a Japanese word for it) end when they hear a cue from the percussion section. The guy in black knows it's coming, too, so he then starts walking back up the platform in time to get the band to start up at the same time. The band then has a couple of seconds to take deep breaths to prepare to start the finale. I.e., the screams have always abruptly ended like this.
I absolutely LOVE this band! No other band, High School or College, compares in quality of sound or precision of movement! A national treasure of Japan !!
I've watched this performance many times and enjoy it more and more each time! Each time I seem to observe something new. Anyone noticed at 16:19, the flag girls do about an 100 yard sprint from the front sideline to the back of the band? Ah...to be young and in shape. :)

100 yards is nothing to these kids, On the morning of the 5.5 mile Rose Parade march, one of the host family fathers said his 3 temporary residents went out for a 2-mile run just to "limber up." At my age, after the the "Limber-up" part, I'd be ready for the recliner, a Martini, and then bed! ..Joe

This performance is incredible and probably the only time we get 3 DMs performing together.

7 DMs. Okezal holding the Japanese National flag, Palinpu holding the Green Band flag, and also, 2012's DM Maiya, (flute) and 2013's DM Ion (saxophone) playing in the ranks. I think it was the largest collection of performing DM's in KT's history. ..Joe
Such a joy to watch! I've watched this over and over again, and the magic has yet to fade. It's all I can do to keep myself from giving you a standing ovation every time!. Keep up the good work, Orange Sprites! Love from across the seas!
Mind blowing awesome!!!!! I love you Kyoto Tachibana SHS! Much love from Malaysia!

I wish other Koreans would be like you !!! Some Koreans make terrible comments on the Tachibana band, referring to the girl members as prostitutes. That's really really terrible !!!! I'm really pissed off !!! But you are different. Thank you very much.

Hurray for Tipi. She's been a real inspiration for a lot of people and I hope that she does well in her life. Also to Ron who is a heck of a Drum Major. Good luck to all of the kids. I love this band.

They are just all teenagerp laying wind struments for so many hours and performing also without showing tireness Very talented sinior high school girls and boys. See you all in Vancouver Canada one day
See again today, I like the marching section when leaving the court. The Tachibana SHS Band attracted all audiences, and no one cared the next band , University of Oklahoma, as they were introduced.
@Kotaro13266 жыл бұрын
Roger Sun, you noticed that too? And the University of Oklahoma Marching Band is one fine marching band. I don't know if you noticed but as Tachibana made their pass and review the Oklahoma band members and staff stand in awe clapping and cheering them on as their staff took pictures of them.
@rogersun69556 жыл бұрын
The Oklahoma Marching Band is fine, and the drummer claps his hands as the Tachibana band passing. But the host should introduce them after the Tachibana leaving. The audiences forget "the next band", and I'm sorry the Oklahoma Marching Band just over there.
@Kotaro13266 жыл бұрын
Roger Sun, the host was very unprofessional not just in that instance but in many other instances as well. And you're exactly right. To have a band like Tachibana (which was by far the crowd's favorite of all the bands played there...and I'm not just saying this because I'm their loyal fan but just a straight up fact) playing before Oklahoma and for the host to be doing what he did it's like the crowd just totally ignore Oklahoma.
@rogersun69556 жыл бұрын
The Tachibana is a special marching band. I found them last year. The members of this band enjoy the marching work, and they always clap with the crowd by passing through the marching team. I had been said "hey, hey, you are working." as I saw the clapping first time. Their training is hard, but they enjoy it.

University of Oklahoma should have performed before Tachibana. I really feel sorry for the Oklahoma band. Poor program setting!!
