Thank you! I never heard any sounds from the neighboring rooms, however when I was there there was construction going on for the new dormitory they were building next door, and that could get quite noisy sometimes. Having said that, the new dormitory is now complete, so you shouldn't have that problem anymore!

Hi, Hiro and Heirii!! I got into Kyodai recently and will be making my move to Japan in a few months. Haven't received any word yet on the student housing options though. What's the housing assignment process like? Do you have to apply to many different dorms or is there like just one consolidated platform and the university assigns you a spot? Is competition to get into Yoshida International House tough? I'm just worried I'll be competing against so many other students who want to get in. 😅

Hi ! thank you for the video ! I'm joining Kyoto U next september with my university exchange program, a lot of my friend are also going to Tokyo. So I was wondering if the Yoshida international Campus accept that other people come to the dormitory and stay for the night ? I don't want them to pay a hotel when they'll visit me haha ! Thank you !

I'm American and in 8th grade, planning to apply for Kyoto University once I get to that point! I'm also planning to become a Japanese citizen and I'm going to take a Japanese language and culture class in high school Don't ask me why I'm so interested in Japan, i just am. I want to go to school in Japan and live there because I lived there for four years before (I'm military) and I became very interested despite living on an American Air Force base

@hiroandheirii17588 жыл бұрын
+xxmeruldxx No, you don't need to major in Japanese to study abroad in Japan. Of course, it might be easier for you if you did, and some programmes may have a different requirement, but the programme which I participated in (KUINEP at Kyoto University) did not require you to study Japanese as far as I know.

Hello Hiro and Heirii and thank you so much for the insightful video! My name is Doina and I am joining Kyoto University by end of March 2016 so I have to make a really quick decision regarding accommodation right now. I was hoping that you would kindly give me some student perspective ( by ranking 1- best to 8-worse) on which is the best option from the following: Shugakuin, Uji, Ohbaku, Misasagi, Yoshida, Satsuki-Dormitory, Mizuki-Dormitory, Kyoto Ryugakusei House. I like nature, light and space (...who doesn't?!) I love yoga, jogging and cooking and I am a 27 years old :) Thank you so much in advance! Best, D

Hi Hiro and Heirii, and I was wondering if I could ask you what exams Kyoto university recognizes and the rent price for one dorm per month? As I take IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and currently planning for my future education plans.
@hiroandheirii17588 жыл бұрын
Hi Eugene! That will depend on what kind of study you're planning to do at Kyoto Uni. For example, I went on a two-semester exchange, and for that I didn't need to do any exams in particular, although I am attending a university that has an exchange partnership with Kyoto Uni. You can find a list of partner unis over here: www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/education-campus/international/students1/program/list_of_univ.html If you're thinking about doing your entire undergraduate degree at Kyoto Uni, I'm afraid they're not going to accept IGSCE... or any overseas qualifications actually. You'll have to take their specialised uni exams, for which you have to be super fluent at Japanese. This is not impossible, I know people who have done it, but it won't be easy. Alternatively, you should really look at Monbukagakusho scholarships - I think if you get one of these you're exempted from entrance exams, and your undergrad studies will be funded. - Heirii

Oh I forgot to reply your other question. This place I lived at was 38200 yen per month, there are other Kyoto Uni dorms which are way cheaper (like half this price) but I think this one's best cos it's literally on campus, and the facilities are new and beautiful. I'm thinking of making a "Living Costs in Japan" video as soon as my uni exams end in July where I'll be talking more about this, so keep tuned! ^_^

hi Heirii, Im going to be staying in yoshida very soon so I have a few questions I hope you can help me answer~! 1. does the room come equipped with microwave, hair dryer, rice cooker, utensils, pots/pans/plates or did you bring those along with you? 2. did you get any mobile data plan while you were in Japan? 3. how much Did you pay for electricity/other room-related costs per month? thank u so much and I look forward to your reply! ^^
@hiroandheirii17586 жыл бұрын
Hey Joey, that's awesome!! In terms of your questions, it's been a long time since I was at Yoshida so I can't guarantee anything, but I'll try my best to answer. 1. No, the room didn't come with any of these, I had to buy my rice cooker and cooking utensils, and I brought a hairdryer over from NZ. I survived without a microwave for half a year, and then a friend gifted me one for free when she left Japan :) I also gave all my cooking stuff to others when I left! 2. I didn't have any mobile data while I was at Kyodai as phone plans were unfortunately complicated and expensive. 3. I can't really remember at the moment, but if you check out my video "Living in Kyoto - Cost Breakdown" I explain everything about my costs there so it may be worth a watch.

@sambowwow218 жыл бұрын
hello, sorry for the late reply. I'm interested to join the Graduate School of Informatics, I'm a second year student in a bachelor program, and I'd lke to know what things shall I prepare from now_ from examination preparation and language_ and document required. thank you for your bother, your vlogs are really beautiful and inspiring. I hope success and happiness follow the two of you everywhere you go ^_^
@hiroandheirii17588 жыл бұрын
+Sami Yousif No problem! I see, in that case you might want to look at this web page: www.i.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/admission/application.html I'm not sure what department you're looking to join, but all the information on the course content and application details (for next year at least) is written there. It shouldn't be too different for future years. From what I understand, you have to take an entrance examination. You'll also have to provide your academic transcript, certificate of graduation, application form, recommendation letter, statement of personal objectives, photocopy of passport, evidence of payment of application fee, curriculum resume, various address labels (not too sure what these are), application form for eligibility screening and if you don't come from an English speaking country, then also proof of English proficiency. It's a lot to get together, but if you really want it then you should have the dedication - it's a good sign that you're already looking into it even though you're only in your second year. Thanks for the lovely comment, let me know if you need some more advice on anything! :)
