京都・知恩院「除夜の鐘」試し突き（2024年12月27日 京都市東山区） Test thrust at the New Year's Eve Bell at Chion-in Temple

12月31日の大みそかを前に、京都市東山区の浄土宗総本山・知恩院で2024年12月27日、「除夜の鐘」の試し突きが行われた。本番と同じように僧侶たちが力を合わせて撞木（しゅもく）の綱を引いて鐘を突くと、巨大な梵鐘（ぼんしょう）の重低音が年の瀬の東山にこだました。
知恩院の大鐘は直径2・8メートル、高さ3・3メートル、重さ約70トンで、1636年に鋳造された。方広寺（京都市東山区）や東大寺（奈良県奈良市）と並ぶ「日本三大梵鐘」の一つとされる。
Ahead of New Year's Eve on December 31, a test run to ring the "Joya no Kane" bell was held on December 27, 2024, at Chion-in Temple, the head temple of the Jodo sect of Buddhism in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. Just as in the real thing, monks joined forces to pull the rope of the striker to strike the bell, and the deep sound of the huge temple bell echoed through Higashiyama at the end of the year.
Chion-in Temple's great bell is 2.8 meters in diameter, 3.3 meters tall, weighs about 70 tons, and was cast in 1636. It is considered one of the "Three Great Temple Bells of Japan," along with those of Hoko-ji Temple (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City) and Todai-ji Temple (Nara City, Nara Prefecture).
