Hey Kyra! I’m so sorry you’ve had such negative experiences with sharing about your finances. I can only speak for myself, but you e helped me a lot with not feeling bad about budgeting and saying no to things I can’t afford. That being said, I do think that it’s very important to talk about how much you make with coworkers. That’s how you learn if you are being compensated fairly or not. We need more financial transparency not less. Also, your coworkers can totally be your friends, my best and most meaningful friend relationships have come from my workplace. They have been an absolute blessing in my life! Just my two cents

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely understand the feeling of time slipping away while going down the online rabbit hole. It's something many of us can relate to, and finding a balance can be a challenge. I appreciate your agreement on the importance of teaching kids essential life skills like budgeting, investing, emergency funds, cleaning, and cooking. Equipping them with these skills early on can truly make a difference in their future financial stability and overall well-being. With the cost of living constantly on the rise, it's crucial to prepare our younger generation for the challenges they may face.

I actually think talking about finances in the workplace is important, because it leads to pay transparency amongst positions. I also am not afraid to talk about my budget/pay with friends, because then all my friends who make more money than I do understand my position and why I say no to things sometimes. I think that's a good thing.
@Kyraann.
@Kyraann. 7 ай бұрын
Perhaps one day I will get the courage to do that again. Lately I do feel like the less people know about your finances the more you can focus on them without any judgment or unnecessary background noise. Right now my finances are a huge mess and it would be impossible to explain to others, at the moment.

@@Kyraann. Completely understandable that you don't want to open yourself up to additional criticism from people who are judgemental or jump to conclusions about how you spend your money, or how they think you should spend your money. Thanks for the advice, Kyra! However, I disagree with the part of not sharing your income at all, I think it's actually useful to discuss that. Maybe not on social media having a fairly big audience, but talking about it at work will help you realize if you're being paid a fair amount for the tasks you do. I am self-employed, and talking about my income and rates with other professionals in my field made me realize that I could be charging more for what I have to offer and that I used to be underpaid at a previous job. I've learned that judgmental people will talk and gossip no matter what. If you don't share the details about your income (or any other topic), they'll find ways to talk negatively about you and criticize your actions. People make assumptions and hurt you even if they don't actually know you.

It must be difficult to give budgeting advice without feeling pressured to share your own financial info. Like you are expected to be extremely transparent with personal money info to make you more credible. I’m sorry that in your effort to help it backfired on you at times. We all have to go through tough life lessons about what to share and to whom and when. It’s really tricky. I have dealt with this too. And it can be painful to be judged and kick yourself for being vulnerable. We all have a right to make our own choices. With money, with our time, with our hearts. And no one has the right to judge. I hope you feel supported here in the community you created more often than you feel judged. Because you are a good person. And you are doing your best to be helpful. 💜

I love your channel Kyra. I am a very simple person myself. I am not into high end fashion, expensive makeup, and we only go on vacation once a year. However, being on Facebook which is the only social media I have made me compare my life a lot even though I am truly happy with myself and how my life turned out. I live in the U.S. and I have friends here who go on vacation multiple times a year. And not just somewhere 2 hrs from where they live but this particular friend has already travelled to Europe 3 times this year and it made me so damn jealous. Her husband makes so much money and we’re not on the same income bracket so we could never do what they do without going into debt. I ended up taking a break from Facebook this week and my life has been so peaceful. I love not knowing everyone else’s lives and it gives me so much peace. I wish I could just delete FB but I haven’t figured out how to save my old videos from there onto my personal computer.

Food is extremely expensive over here n Boston. We also eat healthy and live a plant based lifestyle. But we do not purchase organic due to its high price tag. Non organic grapes cost us $2.99 a pound while organic grapes will cost around 5.99 a pound. Same goes for bananas we pay $1.99 a pound for non organic and the organic bananas are $3.99 a pound. We try our best to eat as healthy as possible but it's getting extremely expensive no matter where we shop. There are some food items I would love to purchase like strawberries, blackberries etc but those prices are around $15 to $20 for a small box.
