Modiji at least has intent to develop Lakshdweep as tourist destination. Previous government for decades didn't bother about it. Intent is paramount, logistics then follow suit. Yes agreed it may take 10-15 years to establish a tourist place but it has to start at some point. You may not be allowed to give a forward looking statement in stocks but in economics/politics you have to have a vision for the future. Yes we may forget the topic soon but at least the seed is sown. Current limitations for Lakshadweep: 1. Only one flight in a day (fare very high). Small plane so cannot take much luggage 2. Need local police station clearance and then get permit from Kochi office to visit. Need advance planning. 3. Very few rooms available.

Maldives was not just a tourist destination, it was an important naval base giving us a strategic edge to defend from outside the country. Now that naval base goes away, govt wants to create Lakshwadeep as that base. Govt doesn't care about tourism in Lakshwadeep and they rightly do not promote it due to environmental concerns. Marine ecosystem in Lakshwadeep is very fragile and imp to be sustained by keeping tourism limited.

The Goal was never to sideline the maldives and develop lakshdweep to compete. If we do so it will mean pushing maldives more towards China, which india dont want. Issue ye hai ki Lakshadweep mein area aur island bahut kam hai. Mushkil se 25% bhi nahi hai Maldives ka! Isiliye Lakshadweep develop nahi hua aaj tak. Aur phir koi isiliye bhi nahi invest karna chahta ki agle 50 - 100 saal mein Global warming se Maldives bhi doob jaega aur apna Lakshadweep bhi! The most important thing is not developing infrastructure but developing the mind set. Let it take 10 years for a complete development but lets start from now. Everything starts from zero but the mind set of where to reach starts from before zero. If Maldives can so can Lakshadweep. Lets capitalise on our resources better late than never. Goa and Lakshadweep are two different segments in terms of tourism. Lakshadweep is like a 5 year old and can be developed into whatever good we want but Goa is like the grandfather who is already brain frozen. But indeed there is more to it than just tourism and that being the case being indigenous is better.
