In 2006, a study conducted by TV Asahi in Japan measured that Fujikawa's fastball spun at 45.46 rotations per second, which translates to a spin rate of 2728 RPM. Additionally, the spin axis of his fastball (the angle of its spin) was found to be tilted only 5°. According to the Magnus effect, the faster the rotational speed & less tilt there is (the closer it is to perfect backspin) of a moving baseball, the more it produces upwards forces, such as lift (the force that lifts the ball up), that counteract gravitational & drag forces. This results in prolonging the ball's flight & causes it to fall less vertically: • Video
