Admittedly I've been critical of the recent debacle that is the revolving door and multiple versions of LA Guns, but this right here is the definitive version in their prime. They did what they did extremely well, maybe better than anyone in that era.

Yes was here about six rows back just for LAG. Opened for AC/DC. It was just the beginning for me with this band. The unfortunate revolving door of members has really screwed the legacy of the band! It's good to see Phil and Tracii back together but the band was and always will be this line up! Cocked and Loaded tour was a better show headlining the Tower Theater just outside the city. What no one may realize they did an amazing reunion record called Man In The Moon that should had been a true reserection of the band. I've been told many stories by various members over the years of why it all fell apart. My conclusion is to many egos destroyed this bands original line up. I've talked with Phil many times over the years. Also had conversations with Steve and Tracii. There is a bitter relationship between Steve and Tracii and most likely prevents another reunion. However in all things never say never. Now that Kelly is back on the scene you never know. Mick The Crippler I think is done with this genre as he keeps moving forward in his musical journey. As good as Phil and Tracii are, The bass line and foundation are distinguished by Steve and Kelly. I enjoy the Phil and Tracii version as wel as I enjoyed Phil and Steve. I remember a reunion show in Brooklyn NY at the old Lamours rock club and when these guys set foot onstage they were just as dynamic as they were here! So my belief is put these four or five together and it could always be a firestorm of sleez! There is just a chemistry that never leaves bands and when original members step on stage memories tend to take over. Just look at the mighty Zeppelin in all their reunions their best was in 2007.

What would a band with five Johnny Thunders look like? The answer is L.A Guns in 1988. This video is an exemplary example of a raw, raucous hard rock band performing live, warts and all. I've recently been listening to the KZbin channel "Before I Forget," authored by the dude who was L.A. Guns road manager at this time. It's incredibly insightful regarding what was going on behind the scenes at the time this video was filmed. This was an opening show for AC/DC. Random thoughts: I'm surprised to see both Tracci and Mick playing Ibanez RG guitars. Notice that the 2nd RG Tracii brings out (white with black pickguard) has the middle and neck pickups removed. It seems like he has some tuning issues going into "Electric Gypsy." I remember being shocked a couple years later when Tracii apparently cut his hair. I now realize that what he really did was take out his hair extensions. Bottom line: Great rock and roll band. The songs stand the test of time. They were a force live on stage at this time.

Why would you be surprised about them playing RGs? RG550 was the premier metal guitar in the 80s. Is still today a top of the line guitar.
@JMMcC69 Жыл бұрын
Nothing against the IBBY RG. I've got a MIJ 570 and it's a killer instrument. In the 80s the more overtly metal and technical players tended to gravitate towards Ibanez. I'm talking guys like Satriani, Via, Scholnick, Harry Cody. Meanwhile, bands that were more traditional rock 'n' roll tended to play LPs, Strats, Teles, even Gretsch. Good examples would be Tom Keifer, Billy Duffy, Slash & Izzy. What I mean by being surprised at the guys in L.A. Guns playing "pointy guitars" is that I'd expect them to be in this latter group. Guns is such a pure rock 'n' roll band. . @@billydeewilliams9104

Excellent show! Wish the sound mix was better but at least its raw soundboard and not doctored up in the studio like a lot of other “live” videos I’ve seen recently of other bands from that era! Can’t believe it’s been 30 years! Where the fuck did the time go????. 😁👍🥁🎸🎤

My band opened for these guys back in 1996 during their American Hardcore tour in Jackson Heights, NY. Tracii wouldn’t talk to anybody. He just stood outside of Castle Heights on the pay phone LOL. I didn’t particularly like the style of the American Hardcore album but as musicians they played incredibly well. Chris Van Dahl was super cool. He hung with us at the bar all night. As a guitarist myself, Tracii’s playing never inspired me. His style is the same simple Sunset Strip blues licks we heard countless times and it has never evolved.
@ametalman663 жыл бұрын
Meet Traci at The Bacchanal in San Diego when his band Killing Machine played there. I tried to buy him a shot of Tuaca while he hung out before they went on and he said “ I can’t fucking drink that I have to play tonight!” So his guitar Tech, a giant 6’5” dude slammed it and said I’ll take another! Then all 3?of us went to the front of the stage and played Air Guitar to the opening band. Ended up hanging out with Killing Machine after there show and had a blast . Traci was very cool that night🤘😎🤘

@Sean0211228 жыл бұрын
Paul Black wrote almost every song off their best album, the debut. And half the songs off the more poppy (and most popular album) cocked and loaded. Phil Lewis ripped off his vocal style and changed a few words to the songs (off their first two records) and tried to call them his own. Paul Black was early la guns to the core! If not for his major drug issues he probably would have remained their lead singer for years..>

Wow. Just wow. They really just weren’t very good were they. I guess that’s why they never got huge. I think the problem is is that they were their own biggest fans. They thought they were way better than anybody else did. There’s just nothing there. It’s all empty bombast. I own the original LP which I bought when it came out. Back then I thought it was pretty good. Wasn’t amazing , but pretty good. Now seeing them play that album live…. Wow, live they are just terrible.
