This is astonishing, beautiful, astute and so accurate to many, many people's experiences. L.A. Salami is officially ordained the Poet Gloryat Of the Kort of Hibblesvanians in Exile. Genius.

Saw this guy last night as accompanying act with David Gray's tour in Bournemouth, he was brilliant, not an insult but so much like a young Al Stewart. Will be following with interest, thanks for an amazing evening with your talent.

Superbe chanson de son dernier album. Si anglais mais si universel ! Avec aussi cette touche de "non prise au sérieux" de son auteur, notamment via ses clips

[Intro] Beyond the Queen, beyond her majesty And the majestic lean that her princes seem to see There lies at her feet a Shakespearean tragedy 'Cause in her country lies a million mimes and a million years of time [Verse 1] So when Kayla comes a-fleeing from the warring Israel Becomes an immigrant in a council flat in northern Camberwell And well it's overwhelmin' that she's on the land where Chaucer dwelled Finds a job as a waitress and is quite comfy for a spell Then when she's more apt with English wishes tend to swell And her ambitions stretch beyond the point [?] And due to here complexion some will there decide that she Is an intruder, a bloodsucker of the soul of their country [Pre-Chorus 1] They all go for hell So they egg her door to make her life hell as well She has grown to know it well And she can tell that England is unwell [Chorus 1] They are so frustrated 'cause England means equality for all But they're a walking contradiction 'cause you aren't so equal when you're poor [Verse 2] Now Shagrinda came illegally but that's beside the point He was sure that he'd be clean of sin once he had been anointed By the sun and the rain of England And he'd be able to sustain in England And maybe he would gain in England But he was soon to see the pain in England He saw a woman beaten up by roadmen in dark tops And high on English chivalry he gave chase and [?] stop But when he did catch up with them they stabbed him and he dropped [Pre-Chorus 2] He never rose again, but a country swelled Where a hero rose and fell He'd grown to know it well And he could tell that England was unwell [Chorus 2] They are so frustrated 'cause England means honor and generosity But they're a walking contradiction 'cause they're full of so much hostility [Verse 3] Come, come along by an English song, sarcasms of the press Forget is all, 'cause naturally her part, it won't suffice I know it well and I know it true, I've lived here all my life Something in the air I feel just doesn't sit quite right Should I voice my worries, I'm a conscientious lad

England is not just London. It gets tiring listing to people talking and singing about 'England' when they mean 'London'. I realise everyone is going to step up and say 'this happens in other cities and towns too' I know, I know. But this song is coming from a London artist and is obviously about his London experience in London. It's not about Hartlepool or Penzance or Tunbridge Wells or Gosport that's for sure.

So much for nuance then, yeah? I'm an American that lives in a midsize City smack dab in the middle of this very vast land, and my take away from the song was not "everyone in England sucks". In fact I related to it quite a bit. there's a lot of the same problems here. Perhaps here they are heightened though cuz there's more people, and more land
