《魯冰花》是1989年所上映同名台灣電影的主題曲，電影以60年代台灣農村為故事背景，描述1961年《魯冰花》盛開時節，美術老師郭雲天來到偏鄉教書。自幼失去母愛、調皮又搗蛋的古阿明學習成績總是倒數第一，然而他在繪畫方面卻是個不折不扣的天才，雖然他家境貧苦，但郭老師發現了他的才華後仍極力栽培，也因此而遭到其他老師排擠，郭老師熬不住相對的不公與嘲諷，憤而動手毆打同事，導致不得不離開學校。
古阿明因身患重病而生命垂危，由於經濟拮据又未能獲得及時的協助，在其最後作品完成前即撒手人寰......。
沒想到他離世後，郭老師在其生前為他投稿的畫作竟獲得了國際競賽首獎。然而，古阿明已然離世，人們再也無法欣賞到他的天才之作。最後，親友將古阿明的遺作和獎狀隨著紙錢一起焚化，祈願他在另一個世界能得到安慰，《魯冰花》雖然再次綻放，但天才卻難以再現。
《魯冰花》是開在路邊一種難以被青睞的低賤小花，其發音和客語及台語的(路邊花)相近，也因其學名Lupinus而得名，它隱含著渺小且懷才不遇的寓意。這首主題曲是由台灣歌詞作家姚謙作詞，已故作曲家陳揚譜曲，民歌歌手曾淑勤所演唱。這首歌曲以獨特的方式表達了對家鄉和母親的思念之情，歌詞裡描述了夜晚、星星和清風在唱歌，猶如陪伴著人們的知音。
現實生活中，當我們感受到孤獨或失落時，或許真的能夠透過大自然的聲音找到一絲安慰。然而，《魯冰花》卻透露著時光流轉的無情，描繪了握住繁華卻感覺荒蕪的心情，更有那青春稍縱即逝的無奈。歌詞中最感人的部分是以茶園裡茶花盛開的景象和淚光閃閃的魯冰花作為象徵，表達了對母親深深的懷念。

The song "The Dull-Ice Flower" is the theme song of the 1989 Taiwanese film of the same name. Set against the backdrop of rural Taiwan in the 1960s, the film depicts the "Dull-Ice Flower" blooming season in 1961.
Since childhood, Gu A Ming experienced the absence of maternal love. Despite being mischievous and a troublemaker, he is consistently an undisputed genius in painting. Teacher Guo recognizes his talent, leading to conflicts with other teachers who ostracize him. Frustrated by injustice and mockery, Teacher Guo resorts to violence and is forced to leave the school.
Gu A Ming, afflicted by a severe illness and on the brink of death, couldn't receive timely assistance due to his humble financial circumstances. Before his life ended, he painted an unfinished artwork. After his death, it was revealed that the artwork submitted by teacher Guo on his behalf won the top prize in an international competition. Sadly, the world loses the opportunity to appreciate the genius of Gu A Ming. In the end, friends and family burn Gu A Ming's artworks and awards as offerings, hoping for solace in the afterlife.
The term "The Dull-Ice Flower," phonetically similar to "roadside flower" in Hakka and Taiwanese, symbolizes the humble Lupinus flower. The song, penned by lyricist Yao Qian and composed by the late Chen Yang, is performed by folk singer Tseng Shu-Chin. It uniquely expresses longing for hometown and mother through the imagery of stars and winds singing at night. The song reflects the harsh reality of holding onto prosperity while feeling desolation and the fleeting nature of youth. The most poignant aspect is the deep yearning for a mother, depicted through the tea plantation in full bloom and the glistening tears of the Dull-Ice Flower,

我是一邊看西風的文稿一邊聽著YO YO 的大提琴声。有点意外,眼角有淚...YO YO 的演奏著實讓人心中懷揣着對於擁有繪畫天才的古阿明面對貧乏和困頓環境的悲憫和同情。 YO YO 對情感表達的演奏技巧真正做到了「琴人合一」的地步,令人激赏啊！整個演奏过程不僅不帶痕跡地讓人完全陷入感性思緒中而且也陷入了哲思：「一切事物終將飄逝的意識,展示啟現了那永恆而美的事物。」郭老師的心美不美？古阿明那得大獎的畫作美不美？他們師生之間的互動美不美？ 凡是真誠的心、善良的動機、堅持勇敢的做下去,在人間或許是短暫的但在天上却是永恆的。 我抹乾了眼角....沒讓它滴到地上！此時已是聽了第五回。
