Clube da Esquina is like a musical collective that was put together by Milton Nascimento in his home state of Minas Gerais. They released this one double album in 1972. Great musicians all around. Lô Borges was one of the collaborators in this project (so Lô Borges is his name - it doesnt translate). Alex Turner mentioned Lô Borges solo work as an influence to Arctic Monkeys's latest album. From Clube da Esquina, you could react to "Tudo o que você podia ser" (written by Borges and sung by Milton Nascimento) or "O Trem Azul" (written and sung by Borges - one of the most classic guitar solos in Brazilian music in this song).

ele foi gravado num estúdio mesmo. mas as músicas foram feitas numa casa de praia. aí qndo as composições ficaram prontas e td mundo sabia os acordes eles foram no estúdio e gravaram tudo já de primeira, o álbum é praticamente um ao vivo. os caras eram tão bons e entrosados q na hora de gravar eles trocavam de instrumentos bem organicamente em algumas músicas, isso numa pausa entre a gravação de uma faixa e outra. se ñ me engano o lô borges toca o piano na própria "girassol" msm ñ tendo mta habilidade com o piano e ele ñ podia errar pq tinha uma orquestra e ter q regravar a faixa sairia caro pra gravadora

That's awesome that Clube da Esquina (and most Minas Gerais scene in the 70's) breaks almost totally the stereotype of Brazilian Music as always happy, tropical, sunny, etc - even because this is one of the most important records of our music. Their music is very Brazilian, indeed, but in a different way....rural, bucolic, rainy, kinda ambiguous and mysterious, inspired by a mountainous countryside landscape, and heavily influenced by Classical Music, Progressive Rock and tons of Beatles.

this is primally a Milton Nascimento album. He brought some 16y 'kids' like Lo Borges and Beto Guedes to record this disc (Beto Guedes plays guitar and sings as second voice in this song). And the arrangements were made by Wagner Tiso in that time was the piano player and later became an orchestra conductor. That progressive vibe was something Beto Guedes was looking for in late 70's. There's a book written by Marcio Borges (brother of Lo) titled "Os Sonhos Não Envelhecem: Histórias do Clube da Esquina". That's a good book to read while listening to the albums from "Clube da esquina" artists recorded in that time (similar as the autobiography of Eric Clapton). Clube da esquina, or "the corner's club" was a place in Belo Horizonte where musicians gathered to play later in the night at bars - but as Milton Nascimento got fame he brought some of the finest musicians there with him - Beto Guedes, Lo Borges, Flavio Venturini, Wagner Tiso, Toninho Horta were the first squad. Then later even Belchior and Elis Regina were together with them.

Lô Borges was (still is) a solo artist. When he recorded this song, he was only 16 years old. The studio he recorded it in had only two channels. It was Lô and the support band on one channel, and the orchestra on another channel. Lô sang and played the piano at the same time. The producer said that if he made a mistake, it would harm all musicians, because the recording was live. But the boy Lô needed two or three takes to finish brilliantly.
