It is a cultural thing that is a little difficult to explain. The way your explain the translation however is very accurate and your key to understanding them. To fully be in total control of your body is not only a physical excercise but a mental one. In Russia (and with Russian teachers) in order to do well and not injure yourself you have to work smart not just hard. They may never say this but they want you to draw that conclusion. You know your limits and how to push yourself beyond them.

Ankles don't hurt during jumps, but ankles can often feel strained on pointe when transition from flat to releve. That's why dancers on pointe are required to acquire significant ankle strength first.

She is not talking about pointing your foot correctly.

My comments were clearly addressing the methodology of the school, not a personal attack on the dancers and students. They are beautiful kids, the best bodies (they were selected for this, after all). I am well familiar with their syllabus, and there are very obvious inconsistencies in the material only some of which are evident in this presentation. Not enough space to go into details, too bad.
