Synopsis: Having heard about a woman of incomparable beauty living in a forest with two male ascetics, demon king Ravana plans to abduct her by having his uncle Maricha transform himself into a golden deer and lure the two men away. Upon seeing the deer, Sita becomes instantly besotted and begs Rama to capture it for her. Despite Lakshmana's vocal misgivings, Rama sets out in pursuit of the deer. After a long chase, he realizes that the creature is not what it seems and shoots his arrow at it. Mortally wounded, Maricha cries out for Lakshmana's help in a voice like that of Rama.
