The difficulty might be slightly malleable, but regardless this is my take on it. Some of the categories may also be debatable such as VCI going to Near. Anyways Matsuda's theory establishes the idea that Near was the one who anticipated his endgame with Light Yagami and not Light himself, it implies he saw through everything from the start and checkmated Light aswell as manipulated Mikami with the notebook.

Just because Near wonders what "L" would do, doesn't mean Near can't solve some case. I'm not saying that Near is more intelligent than L, but that Near asks himself the question of what L would do is nothing special, I'll explain... It's normal that many times one asks himself a question to go in search of answers and then see if the answers go according to the questions, or you can first get answers and relate them to the questions you ask yourself, to see if they go together. I can be someone with an IQ of 180 and wonder what you would do in "x" situation, my intelligence determines how difficult it is for me to find the answers to my question after asking the question.

@@demureaqwe876 Of course! L is Near's mentor and Near is trying to imitate L's style in general. Remember, the outside world doesn't know that L is dead and Near intends to keep this a secret. So, he has to also perfectly copy L's investigative style so that the wider populace assumes that L remains undefeated. They're both obviously geniuses, but Near probably surpasses L in raw deduction whereas L surpasses Near in willingness to act and risk-taking.

L negs Near. He played a game without knowing the rules and he almost won. He knew that Light was Kira pretty early on (it’s implied). He just need concrete evidence to get Light either executed or put in jail for the rest of his life. Near had most of his knowledge of the case because of L and was fighting Kira when Light’s entire team was already very suspecting of him. He’s smart but Light and L are on different level especially L.

Don't forget the fact L almost solved a supernatural case light literally had a advantage which was using the death note rules as he's advantage he even had 1 shinagami willing to sacrifice himself just to kill a person whenever he want. If L didn't die he could gather more reasoning and information about the Death note to gain knowledge about it. Also L knew it was something that is supernatural so he considered every possibilities of the case making Light's allibies unbelievable for L. Although all L need was only reasoning

Matsuda's theory for those who don't know : Short answer : Near knew Light's plan and planned all events that led to Light's defeat. Long answer : This theory was actually brought up at the end of the manga books by Matsuda. He theorized that Near knew Light's plan from the beginning and used the Death Note to control Mikami before he headed to the warehouse. This would explain why Mikami didn't realize the notebooks had been switched. Knowing Light, he would have told Mikami to test the book before using it, since he already realized Near would try to switch out some pages. Also, in the manga it's said that Mikami died 10 days after Near caught Light. He didn't kill himself. He died in jail. If you read through the manga, Matsuda explains everything in detail. 28th January was the day Light met Near. 26th January around late morning to early afternoon is when Takada died. Near explains that Mikami had already written down names for the 27th and 28th right up to the time of the meeting in order to cover for the absence of Takada. The same names will be in the fake notebook and the people would've died. Thus, he had no reason to suspect foul play while they had a day and a half to create a replica. Here, Mikami's own caution and loyalty worked against him both by tipping off Near and stopping him from testing the note on the day of the meeting. Near alludes to this. If it hadn't been for Mello kidnapping Takada, Near would've died. Mikami was forced to act and made a mistake.

Near is not smarter than L. Let me support my theory. At the end of death note if Mikami didn't screw up then Near would've lost. He admitted it himself. Yet L did still get killed, L got all that information from scratch yet Near already had all the info, so L is superior. If L didn't get killed when he did, then it wouldn't have taken him much longer to solve the Kira Case. Yet I'm not sure what Near would become as an adult but my theory is that No matter what Near becomes he would never be smarter than L. I also just Like L more than Near because Near is pretty much just a copy of L except not as smart.

Near found the information about Kira from the scratch, the only think Near knew about the case thanks to L was that Kira was from Kanto and Kira couldn't kill without a name or a face. You clearly don't know Matsuda's theory: according to Matsuda, Near completely outsmarted Light and predicted all his moves since the beginning. He knew Light would use a fake notebook so he manipulated Mello to confirm that theory and later on write the name of Mikami and specify something like "Teru Mikami without testing the notebook or suspecting whether it's fake or not, goes to Yellow Box and dies 10 days later"

That's... not true. That statement was a mistranslation + we can even see Light in the manga controlled someone with the shinigami eyes (Jack Syndar, one of Mello's pawns).

Matsuda theory is overrated. The fools in the comments or the author in the video simply do not understand what this theory is all about. The point is that Near realized that the notebook was fake and by manipulating Mello he was able to fully understand the Light's plan 1. First of all, you need to understand that without Mello Nia still wouldn’t be able to do anything. It was with the hands of Mello that Near was able to drive Light into such a situation, and Near himself admitted this. Moreover, Matsuda himself, the one who put forward this theory, noted that without the effective work of Mello, Near would not have achieved anything and most likely would have canceled the meeting. Mello is not Near's pawn at all, Mello is a third party to the conflict. Near was only able to wisely use his alliance with Mello to defeat Kira. Yes, I don’t argue, based on this theory, Near manipulated Mello. However, Mello is still L's heir and he is the third party to the conflict. Near was against Kira not 1 on 1, but 2 on 1. Light opposed both heirs of L at once. 2. Also, do not forget that Near was lucky and twice it happened exactly as it was beneficial for him. Matsuda also noticed this. If Near had been unlucky at least once, then Mello's sacrifice would have been in vain and Near would not have been able to defeat Light 3. Near also had all the information from L, so he didn’t even have to prove anything, he didn’t even have to take risks and expose himself. Instead of Near, Mello took the risk and obtained information. Without Mello, Near would not have been able to understand Light's plan and would have lost to Light. It is Mello who is able to improvise and, thanks to his creativity, create a very tense situation in which Mikami made a mistake, which allowed Near to win. Near himself does not have such creativity and does not know how to improvise. according to Matsuda, Near completely outsmarted Light and predicted all his moves since the beginning. He knew Light would use a fake notebook so he manipulated Mello to confirm that theory and later on write the name of Mikami and specify something like "Teru Mikami without testing the notebook or suspecting whether it's fake or not, goes to Yellow Box and dies 10 days later"

Near, just like L, can follow dozens of monitors at once. In that scene, he caught Mikami, a very smart and outspoken individual, talking about Kira in a very positive light (no pun intended). From there, Near suspected that he could be a good candidate to be X Kira if A Kira personally chose him, so he didn’t figure it out right then and there, but just suspected him and confirmed his suspicions later as he started investigating him

L found Kira's identity and the existence of shiniganis out of clues, with his logical thinking he sued Light Yagami for being Kira even if he was already shown innocent meanwhile Near just took the puzzle that L made for him and he just did the puzzle like a game, he already struggle a lot only with that but he managed to caught Kira but thanks to Mikami and Mello L would succeed alone and he just lost because he started treating Light Yagami like a friend

If u put that theory aside canon near didn't do anything he had data from l and mello sacrifice to win that was when he was 18 also for some years he didn't do anything he also let so many of his squad die just to barely win l on the other hand did everything alone the entire investigation from the start fighting something supernatural and the only reason he lost is rem near played it safe and alone he couldn't have done anything not to mention that when near came to the story the belief that light was kira existed but when l kept persistently saying it no one believed him so no near cant reach l level and he was adult when he won

So, you know how it seems like Near's character has a lot of good luck/plot armour? Matsuda's theory is that these situations actually WEREN'T luck, but were actively orchestrated by Near using the Death Note. You can find videos that go more in depth on it, but if it's true, Near's character is probably the smartest in the series by far.
