My first Lanzhou beef noodles was back in 1979 when I studied in Lanzhou University. The small restaurant was right across the school. I still remember the mid age lady owner. She always added me extra tasty yak dice. There was another tiny eatery made of a simple canvas tent outside next to the campus walls. The young couple ran it and cooked the handpulled noodles in a humble aluminum pot. No tables ,just some wobbly stools. The beef noodles were super yummy tasty. I sat on a stool and finished my beef noodles till the last drop of the soup inside the dim candle lit tent restaurant. What a memory of late 70's of my college years!
