The name of this Japanese animation is "Ohkami Shonen Ken" which literally means "Ken, the Wolf Boy." The song is its tile song and I still remember enjoying wtaching it 45 years ago. Yes, the song is really great and very original.
I remember the song but the 1963 anime that I remember had the character that looked older, like the Jungle Book of 1967. I saw Ookami Shonen Ken in both TV and at the theater back then. I thought the theater was going to be a new episode but it turned out to be the same TV version when Ken's double ended up trading places. I'm sure Disney was influenced by this series, just as Kimba: The Jungle Emperor influenced the Lion King, even though they denied it at first.
