Very true regarding the roof top tent (RTT). Newbies be like "Wow, I must get a RTT, it is so cool to carry your house around!" Experienced old farts be like "Another one bites the dust." I got rid of my CVT Mt. Rainer in 2018 after two years of ownership due to the same reasons: weight (hard to put on and take off), height (no airport parking or any city garage parking), high center of gravity, and a massive drop in fuel economy. Surprisingly I made a profit selling it since every newbie wanted a RTT... Also I was not comfortable driving in the sand dunes or climbing/descending steep hills with it on. Nowadays, I have a hitch swingout cargo basket and sleep inside the vehicle with the seats folded down. If my kids are with me, I use the SUV ground tent that extend from the back of my SUV (also detachable from the SUV so you can drive the SUV without lugging your base camp around). If my wife want to go camping/glamping, then we tow the trailer.

Yeah~ If I gonna cross country or stay middle of nowhere for more than a week, i might will put the RRT back to my roof again. But for off-roading, It would be too danger for me. It just like running with holding 5 Gal bucket with water😂
