Really eyes opening for me, like a lost friend now found. I went to a small village in Laos, very close to the Golden Triangle, in an army truck, the one you usually saw in an Hollywood WW2 movie, discharged from the US army, given free to Laos. I went there with a friend who was a fugitive drug dealer from Hong Kong. The roads were muddy, not sealed, and just a few high legged wooden huts, and eventually my friend caught malaria, and we had to head back, all the way to Vientiane, to save his life. Mates, that was slightly less than 60 years back. BTW, then most Chinese in Laos were Chaozhou ren, now all fled overseas to Paris, Sydney and San Francisco. Their places are filled up by ethnic Chinese from Sichuan, and Putonghua has replaced Chaozhou hua. All vehicles, from cars to motorbikes are made in China, unlike my times they were Japanese made. Fond memory indeed to me to see the video here, though they are scenes I have not seen.
