I'm using KZ zex for past 5 months and yes, this is the best sounding iem i have ever heard. Mukkiyama sollanum na ithula semmayana Wider sound stage. So audio la layering and texture nalla iruku. Mids la female voices konjam thin ah irukum but treble super ah reproduce aagum. Sub bass rumble avlovo laam irukaathu, so if you are a bass head, you will be disappointed ( usually iems are not meant for bass). It'll have a required amount of sub bass and mid bass and mainly mids section kulla bass bleed aagala. Overall a good wide soundstage and detailed sounding iem.

after using dac surely the sound quality will be improved. it will be better as like chu 2 and kz zex. but can't tell without compare because I used in-build dac on fiio jd1 and you're going to use separate physical dac so it differs. generally separate physical dac performs best than in-built dac in type C so surely sound quality improved but can't tell without comparing in these combination

already your setup is good for music experience If you're planing to buy IEM, firstly if your phone supports 3.5 jack or not If only type c then JD1 is better and if you only have 3.5mm jack then try kz-zex And dac is not must buy, for iems without dac it performs best bcoz of driver quality. if you want details then DAC will support and it really makes difference. Especially if you not use iem and regular wired earphones like boult, oneplus, jbl, boat for that earphones also dac makes double the experience

Note: All IEM bass are not too much, there in no boost in bass, it just there if song has bass. You feel the bass and treble extension only when there is a perfect seal. Perfect fit romba mukkiyam. If you want bass and treble Go with kz If you also consider mids Chu 2 or zero 2 might be good option

if no budget issue get kz-zex with dac like kz-am01 (not supported microphone passthrough) for full of detailed sounds. if budget centric, then fiio jd1 with type c port, it has build-in dac, DSP use apple music for 24-bit 96kHz hi-res songs. with this combination you can experience best ever music bro

I experienced only limited no of IEMs so far, based on this fiio jd1 model is good bcoz its in-build portable DAC + DSP if no money problem try KZ-ZSN Pro 2 with Physical DAC which cost extra 1000 rs - Its going to be terrific performance of Highs and lower frequencies. Use Apple Music for Hi-Res songs

Yeah correct, but some brands try to build in-built dac with type c port that works best in Fiio JD1 product. But as you said, 3.5mm + DAC combo is ultimately powerful, can't hear. Also, price is constraints in this setup compared to type c with built-in dac.
