How do you attach the ends and 2 parts together with the metal pieces that slide into each other?

Do you know if the cushions on the couch have zippers? I thought of replacing the cushions inside with maybe a memory foam pad.

Cushion pad is too thin for sleeping. Add a mattress pad and you're golden.
