The importance of learning to play an instrument should never be underestimated. It is integral to really understanding music. And yes this a period when Blacks were comfortable in their Blackness -- afros ruled the day. Just Beautiful.

Jeffrey Osborne solo work: On The Wings of Love, Baby Stay With Me Tonight, & Woo Woo Woo. He also sang on a remake of Spinners’ hot, I’ll Be Around, with smooth jazz group, The Rippingtons. Jeffrey was also on We Are the World, but didn’t have a solo spot, though he deserved it. He used to sing the whole song on his live concerts.

Fantastic reaction to an excellent song! LTD is another dope band from the 1970s with solid music. Jeffery Osborne started out with them as their lead singer before he went solo. Some great songs from them are: Love Ballad, Holding On When Love Is Gone, Stranger, Never Get Enough Of Your Love, Where Did We Go Wrong & We Both Deserve Each Other's Love.

You know how people "sampled" songs cause they didn't have the creative ability n their own. maybe that's how you seem to recognize some music. And, you probably heard some older folks play these songs. I can't be a patreon so you won't listen to my suggestions. Pity. I go way way back and I could give you some great ideas. One thing I will say is to check out a Nigerian dude named Fela Kuti.
