The U.S. made the Louisiana Purchase from France in 1803, paying $15 million for 828,000 square miles, roughly 15 states. $15 was worth a lot more back in 1803, but to buy that much land? The U.S. basically stole it from the French. This was in 1803 though. People were sometimes very ignorant. Today, Greenland, which is roughly the size of Alaska, is one of the richest mineral depositories in the world. Sure, it's cold, and there are only has about 57,000 inhabitants. But its deposits of uranium, rare earth minerals and oil alone are worth at least $1.5 trillion. But it actually has a lot more untapped resources, plus it occupies a nice strategic location. If Greenland became available for sale, it would not be $15 million, or $15 billion. I am pretty sure that $15 TRILLION wouldn't be enough. It's no longer 1803. No one is going to hand over land that is worth many trillions for a token amount. The U.S. has a national debt of $36 trillion, and counting. Donald Trump has a lot of money, and his buddy Elon Musk has even more. But they're going to have to look pretty hard to come up with $20-50 trillion dollars even if Greenland was for sale. Also, it's ludicrous for Trump or any American leader to say that it's critical for the U.S. to acquire and control Greenland due to America's self interest. America has zero claim over Greenland. Has never owned it, and Greenland's citizens have no interest in joining the U.S. So, to say that the U.S. "needs" Greenland is the same as saying that the U.S. needs Taiwan, or Ukraine, or Poland, or China. The U.S. may still see itself as the world's most powerful nation. But to just randomly name a country that has the resources America needs and then to say that America should just go and "get" that country for itself? That's beyond absurd. It's typical American greed, and it's a total lack of respect for the sovereign rights of other nations. But even for the U.S., this is beyond ridiculous.
