الصومال الكبير يشير إلى المنطقة في القرن الأفريقي التي تعيش فيها العرقية الصومالية والتي مثلت تاريخياً الأغلبية فيها. ولذلك يضم الصومال الكبير كلاً من: الصومال وجيبوتي وأوغادين والمحافظة الشمالية الشرقية (المنطقتان الأخيرتان تديرهما حالياً إثيوپيا وكينيا، على التوالي). الوحدة الصومالية هي رؤية توحيد هذه المناطق كأمة واحدة تحت علم صومالي واحد. السعي لتحقيق هذا الهدف أدى إلى صراع، مدخِلاً الصومال في حـ رب مع إثيوپيا على منطقة الأوغادين، وكذلك دعم الثوار الصوماليين فيما سمي حـ رب شيفتا ضد كينيا

Greater Somalia refers to the region in the Horn of Africa in which ethnic Somalis live and which have historically represented the majority. Therefore, Greater Somalia includes: Somalia, Djibouti, Ogaden, and the North-Eastern Province (the latter two regions are currently administered by Ethiopia and Kenya, respectively). Somali unity is the vision of uniting these regions as one nation under one Somali flag. The pursuit of this goal led to conflict, bringing Somalia into a war with Ethiopia over the Ogaden region, as well as supporting Somali rebels in what was called the Rab Shifta War against Kenya.
