Hey thanks for the video. Not sure if you've come across this error before. I have a 2D truss I need to analyze and have drawn it first in CAD and layered using your layer types. However, importing in the DXF file into CAD I get a "Can not open file" message. Have you ever run into this issue before?
@ekoprasetyochannel74073 жыл бұрын
thankyou very much ,, i really enjoy this video on 2021.., i'm wondering if 2d cad file can also imported into sap2000? or it has to be a 3d cad file..

Outstanding video, how about rebar? I'm trying to figure out what "fibers" are as relate to shell elements.

If you are using reinforcement elements you are better of using ETABS rather than SAP2000

Hi Miket Tsappas, it is really a great video. Can you please help me by sharing a video to convert 3D solid from Auto CAD to SAP2000. Basically I want to model a taper Pier section and analyze the same.

hi, I want to import a dxf file ( traingular arch truss ) in sap2000. but I cant do it. what can be the problem ?
@osmanalikorkmaz593610 жыл бұрын
Thanks s lot miket tsappas..ıts so helpful video. But, as Erıc Espinosa say that when we import dxf file to sap2000 , points are not come same coordinates..:) So, SAP2000 analyses are not correct.

hi miket, i have a question, do you know how to down the precision of the units in SAP. i change it in AUTOCAD and only use to decimal, but when i import mi dxf file, this have a lot of decimal points of precision, and this produce that many elements dont have conected
@l0chis110 жыл бұрын
yes...i can help you with that....you will have to explain the problem a bit better though! you mean that when you work (say) in mm in auto cad (1000mm line) and u import that in sap2000 it screws up the units? (999mm in sap2000?)
@ericespinosa350410 жыл бұрын
miket tsappas no, for example, if i have a node with the coordinate, x=3.45m, y=7.52, z=0 in autocad, and then when i import this point to SAP2000, the coordinate change to x=3.4525733967, y=7.52369871, z=0.00032541, mi question is, how can keep the same accuracy after import mi dxf file to SAP?, i hope i could explain my doubt better, thank you!
@l0chis110 жыл бұрын
Eric Espinosa i see.... i think i have come across this problem again....you need to change the point accuracy from SAP2000 properties menu! play around with it I'm sure there is something there...oh...one more thing that may help you out....if you have sap2000 open - hit F1, the search will open up and just throw in there "change accuracy" or accuracy adjustments! give this a go and let me know how it works out. i swear i had this same problem before but i really really don't remember how i solved it and i have no access to sap2000 atm unfortunately to let u know more :/
@ericespinosa350410 жыл бұрын
miket tsappas Hi Miket i followed your advice, but it doesnt work, i hope you can remember how to solve this problems, i going to try to fix this problem and if i find the answer i will write it for all
@l0chis110 жыл бұрын
Eric Espinosa Eric, i have done a bit of research on the problem that you are facing and this is what came up -> This usually happens when you are using either a cracked or a trial version of the software. What happens is during installation one value from one of the *.ini files in the installation folder (i think its sap2000.ini file) becomes corrupt. You can change that in the text editor but it is really not recommended. I would suggest trying to install a clean copy of the software again. HOWEVER, there is a way that you can change the accuracy of the units that you are using natively FROM sap2000 interface, i will let you know if i manage to find the solution, hopefully later this week.

thanks! I have a question: can you do the same using curved surfaces?
@l0chis15 жыл бұрын
You need to break down the outer perimeters of the surface to multiple points in autocad and then import. Sap will only recognise the points - then connect points with surface tool in sap. I'm afraid sap2000 isnt very intelligent regarding surfaces (hence the reason y I dont use it anymore). M

@l0chis17 жыл бұрын
Amjad Kharouf hi, as I mentioned to other comments sap2000 is not the best tool for structural analysis. it is helpful to a point however I wouldn't swear on the results it provides. in other words I don't really trust the newer versions and or the older ones. if this is for a work related project you can contact us for a quote any time www.engineworx.org or at my personal email directly tsappasis@gmail.com

Hi Mike!!! Great video!!! Thanks!!! But I need your help. I can't import a 3D model from AutoCad2017 to SAP 2000 V14.2.2. The 3D model is a corner fitting from a container, so, doesn't need to create an area and convert into a solid. Simply, I rename a layer as 3DSOLID, convert to dxf (2010 version) and then, I import to SAP2000 setting directions, units and layers.... But not happens!!! Please, I'm waiting any help. Best regards!
@l0chis17 жыл бұрын
Adelmo Magalhães de França Junior hi thanks for the comment. I wouldn't recommend sap for any solid analysis/engineering works! it's not a very user friendly tool. also, when and if you are able to import the model as a solid or 3d it won't be very easy setting conditions releases surface releases loads etc (model wise). if this is work related you can contact us for possible discussions/solutions. looking forward to hearing from you. you can email me directly on my personal email at tsappasis@gmail.com or you can get in contact with us via our website - www.engineworx.org

Thanks Mike! So I will not consider the analysis of corner fitting in my research. I think the best software for this would be Ansys. Anyway, I really appreciate your help.

+Samane Karami exact same methodology :)
@l0chis18 жыл бұрын
+Samane Karami & by 3d truss i assume that you mean a space frame correct?
@samanekarami51248 жыл бұрын
Yes space frame
@l0chis18 жыл бұрын
exact same way - ensure you place all space frame chords/diagonals in the same layer, also, SAP2000 has an option that allows you to do that automatically i.e generate a space frame structure from the software.

TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE POINTS WHEN YOU IMPORT FRO AUTOCAD TO SAP2000: When you import the points change in a weird manner. CORRECT! SOLUTION: 1) after you import, in sap2000 hover over the LAST POINT ON THE LEFT CORNER OF YOUR MODEL! 2) As you are over the point (on your model), on the right hand side of your screen you will see a point - coordinates (X, Y, Z)! 3) Write The Coordinates DOWN! WITH THE SIGN (+/-)! 4) Select ALL (MODEL)! 5) Editc - Move (OR Ctrl+m - i THINK!!!!!!!!) 6) A Window In Front Of You will Pop saying the DELTA distances you would like to move the model at - take the coordinates that you have noted and change the signs i.e. if the coordinates are (1000, -12385, -12309584.1123) - you will need to import (-1000, 12385, 12309584.1123)
