It actually has nothing to do with suicide. I was thinking of a very specific scenario: a man finds himself trapped on the ocean floor with no escape because of his own foolish and arrogant actions, and he realizes that these actions will drive him to ruin if he doesn't stop. He also realizes that he is slowly becoming like a friend of his who was ultimately destroyed because of his pride and stubborness. I was thinking of a song that could capture that moment, and "When I Was Older" by Billie Eilish works very well in my opinion

She knew she was dreaming because there he was, smile wide and eyes bright. When she looked at him like this, beyond the gates to their old garden, she could almost convince he was sleeping next to her in the real world instead of her old bottle of whiskey. She could almost believe he was still alive. She took a step forward, feeling smooth grass caress her foot. Another, then another, each faster than the last, she threw herself at him as he swung her around. His arms were wrapped around him like they used to and his eyes were the same shade of brown and his lips tasted the same. She wanted to hear him speak. Did his voice sound the same? She wouldn't get to find out, as she startled awake to a throbbing headache and burning heartbreak. She turned over, pulled her blankets tighter, and felt her heart -- or whatever was left of it -- fall apart and crumble into the flowers of their long-forgotten garden.
